It seems like you can’t step into a restaurant with out seeing tables complete of people breaking out their smartphones and snapping pictures of their meals before diving in. That is the hot trend in Wired’s San Francisco home base, at least, and it’s mostly tied to Foodspotting, a food discovery app that lets you take and post images of food dishes to create visual menus for restaurants.
Nowadays, Foodspotting is adding yet another level of utility to its app: dish suggestions. A feedback-based recommendation engine pairs with heavier social media integration to support make deciding what to order a considerably simpler process.
“Most folks use Foodspotting for browsing and bookmarking dishes, and attempting them nearby,” founder Alexa Andrzejewski said. “A lot of our users aren’t super into the picture-taking, so the app has been redesigned with that in thoughts.”

Joerg Sprave Builds Heated Slingshot for Maximum Zombie Killing Power

By hot, I truly mean hot too. Sprave fitted his new Entropy Slayer 2000 slingshot with its own heater.
As he shows in his video, as soon as you stretch the rubber band on a slingshot, the band heats up, which offers the slingshot more firing power. Proper away the band cools and as the heat leaves, the power declines too. The problem is if you want to have your slingshot loaded and ready to fire you end up losing power. The answer to the dilemma of losing that power is to apply heat.
Sprave took a heating element and encapsulated it and the rubber bands in an enclosure that traps the heat and keeps the bands good and warm for firing. This way when he stretches the bands, he can heat them up for maximum power. The heater is powered by a rechargeable battery and appears to heat rapidly. He’s also included an interior/exterior thermometer for optimizing the temperature.
It would be intriguing to see what would happen if Joerg heated up the rubber bands on some of his far more destructive creations like the circular saw slingshot or the slingshot cannon.
