Ralph McQuarrie Star Wars paintings are a must have
![]()
Ralph McQuarrie is the guy who conceptionalized visually the entire Star Wars trilogy. Here is a small collection of artwork which has played a major role in the Star Wars trilogy as we have seen it.
Each of the images you see after the jump will open up upon clicking to become high-resolution versions for your download and/or use. They’re under copyright to Ralph himself more than likely, so don’t go printing them up and selling them, but feel free to use them as wallpapers n such. Mr McQuarrie is a kind fellow who would love for you to use his artwork to liven up your digital device.

YouTube schools copyright infringers with cutesy video
Any YouTube user who receives a copyright notification will be forced to sit through a cutesy cartoon showing them the error of their ways, as part of a new campaign launched by the video sharing site this week.
The mandatory video, titled YouTube Copyright School, is a hard hitting animation which demonstrates just how much trouble an animated otter can get into for submitting copyrighted video.
In it, a hapless sea otter pirate named Russell is desperate to share a video of Lumpy, the singing moose.
Copyright Group Wins Legal Right to Subpoena Thousands of File Sharers
Saturday March 26, 2011
If you thought that the era of copyright holders suing individuals for huge sums of money because they shared or downloaded copyrighted material on the Internet were over, think again. The US Copyright Group recently won a court ruling by a federal judge in Washington DC that will allow the group to, on behalf of their clients, subpoena ISPs across the country to turn over the identities of users who have used BitTorrent to trade in copyrighted material at any point in time.

Off-Topic: Egyptian Photographer’s Photos Censored On Flickr

Hossam el-Hamalawy, otherwise known as 3arabawy on Flickr, was the source for the image in my post on the Egyptian revolution. His Flickr stream is full of great photos from the streets, but just recently, after posting some pictures of Egyptian secret police accused of brutality, he’s been hit with a plainly fraudulent copyright takedown notice.
Out of gratitude for his excellent coverage of the revolution and allowing me to use his photo for my post, I wanted to give a little attention to this nonsense. There isn’t much we can do, but you can share your disappointment with Yahoo’s copyright division by emailing them, or tweet @Flickr telling them to get with the program.

With New Report, U.S. Prepares To Update Outdated Copyright Rules
Flickr’d
The wheels are in motion for a much needed update to this country’s copyright rules, but the only problem is that these new rules seem to have been written by the very same people who thrust the DMCA upon us so many years ago. What fun!
The 2010 U.S. Intellectual Property Enforcement Coordinator Annual Report on Intellectual Property [PDF here], written at the behest of President Obama, proscribes a number of measures to be taken in order to update American laws vis-à-vis copyright and intellectual property. On the surface that sounds great: it’s about time we took an updated look at the way copyright works in the country.
But before you get too excited you’d do well to read the introductory letter and the full introduction. Nothing there really screams “updated view on copyright” so much as it does “we’re doubling down on copyright infringement enforcement.” One example: go ahead and search the PDF for the phrase “fair use.” Maybe I’m blind, but I can’t seem to find it. I guess fair use is one of those things that endangers America’s ability to innovate.
iHome iP3 gets more power

If you’re looking for an iPod or iPhone dock then you’ll quickly discover that iHome has a big selection of docks for you to choose between. They are coming out with yet another one, except this time their dock has a bit more kick than usual. Instead of going for a lower wattage speaker they’ve decided to kick things up to 50W.
In addition to those 50W of power, they’ve added in Bongiovi Digital Power Station technology. It also has some familiar features like being able to play both the iPod and iPhone. Then it also has the boring stuff like a line-in jack, a remote control and backlit buttons. The whole thing meastures 14.81” by 5.71” by 6.23”. You can pick one up for $199.99.
