E3 2011 was meant to be a big event for Nintendo. It was, after all, unveiling the successor to the highly-successful Wii console, and with it showing the world what the company would be focusing on for the next several years.

But things did not go to plan. The Wii U was received with a lot of misunderstanding, head-scratching, and questions as to what exactly it was. The market didn’t like the Wii U either as Nintendo’s share price fell 5.7% on Wednesday then a further 4.6% yesterday.

Facebook Like button tracks you, even if you don’t click

dislike Facebook Like button tracks you, even if you don’t click

Facebook’s Like button has made it easy for hundreds of millions of Web users to share content with their friends on the social networking site. The button appears on more than one-third of the top thousand websites and has been integrated into everything from Bing search results to countless blogs around the ‘net. What users may not realize is that the soft blue thumbs-up is tracking their surfing habits, even if it doesn’t get clicked.

Any time the Like button is displayed, information is zapped back to Facebook’s servers. As long as you’ve been logged into the site in the past month, Facebook happily continues warehousing your whereabouts. Data which is gathered is retained for three months — substantially longer than the two weeks Google stores similar information it receives from users. So what exactly is Facebook doing with the browsing data it gathers?

Facebook says it’s not using the data to track you, per se, but rather to help power targeted ads which get displayed when you share a link with your friends. It’s also trying to ascertain how effective the Like button and widgets are and help websites figure out how to attract more traffic. Facebook CTO Bret Taylor told the Wall Street Journal, “We don’t use them for tracking and they’re not intended for tracking.”

Yes, somehow the company believes what it’s doing doesn’t qualify as tracking. Despite the fact that data about where you go and what you read online is being used to customize advertising delivered to you and your friends, you’re not being tracked. And while Facebook is busily analyzing usage to help site owners boost pageviews and interactions, you’re still not being tracked.

The CDC blogs tips for surviving the zombie apocalypse

cdc tweet The CDC blogs tips for surviving the zombie apocalypse

Earlier today, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention tweeted about a blog post it wrote concerning a very pressing matter: the zombie apocalypse. Sent from its @CDCemergency Twitter account, the tweet sent so much traffic to the post, entitled “Preparedness 101: Zombie Apocalypse,” that it actually crashed the CDC’s web server.

Obviously the CDC’s post was a joke and perhaps a way to get a bit more traffic, but with people thinking that the end of the world is coming on Saturday, finding out the best ways to prepare for the zombie apocalypse may not be a bad idea.

The CDC’s post suggests that you’ll be happy you read it when the apocalypse does eventually happen. In reality, the advice the CDC gives in its zombie post is general good-to-know info in case of a real emergency. It’s actually a good way of making us read info we normally might skip over. However, with books like The Zombie Survival Guide, who needs to read a post from the most prominent and trusted source in the United States for health and safety information?

Concept of interchangerable laptop has some merit

interchangable laptop B1ran 54 Concept of interchangerable laptop has some merit

Creative ideas have no end. When the world of computing knocked all professions, there were only personal computers with big huge monitor then came the better ones and then finally the laptops and tablet PCs. But then are we going to stop with it? May be not. If we look at the idea that is doing rounds on the Internet, we will have to agree that something better than the excellent would surely hit the market soon. The new happening concept is the interchangeable laptop.

The designer discussed in one of the blogs the idea of interchangeable laptop. According to the concept, the parts of the laptop can be detached. For instance, a key board can be detached from the laptop and the same can be fixed to the other laptop or a computer. The main idea behind this is the flexibility. Here the key board also saves the way your desktop looks, which means that you can carry your temporary files and the screen desktop background in your key board and the same appears when you fix that particular keyboard on some other computer. Though sounds a bit confusing, the idea may work out.

What difference will it make?
The interchangeable laptop will surely make a difference if it comes to existence. With the help of such laptop work will become flexible. Secondly, people need not carry the entire laptop. One can just carry the key board . With the help of the key board itself, one can access through his temporary files and can also see the same operating system settings. In case if a laptop based on this concept hits the market, it would undoubtedly damage the sales of the other tradition laptops.

The idea also stresses on the need for detaching the monitor. Guys this actually sounds better for me as I always feel like changing my laptop just because of the irritating scratches on my screen. If something like this is really available, people can only change their monitors instead of the entire machine. All in all the concept is good and it undoubtedly has some merit.

Tons of used 3DS consoles in Japanese stores

Used 3DS Tons of used 3DS consoles in Japanese storesThe 3DS just went on sale over the weekend here in the US, but the console has been available in Japan since February 26. But are they tired of it yet? It’s starting to look that way. Japanese retail blogs are reporting that the handheld keeps being sold back to stores.

That isn’t good news for Nintendo. So, what is the reason? The black screen of death? Well, it seems that there are many reasons that users are ditching the console. There’s the lack of good games for one, even though that will change. Maybe there is just a general disappointment after the buildup.
