Stair Rover skateboard can apparently travel down a flight of stairs

Skateboarders really don’t have the word “pain” in their dictionaries since they insist on trying to skate over every known surface in their proximity. Even though most surfaces with clean sharp edges are easily conquered by skateboarders, stairs remain the illusive metaphoric summit. For skateboarders that just don’t have the time to perfect their technique and try and take on stairs with their regular skateboards, the Star Rover skateboard might be just the thing. Created by Po-Chih Lai, a product designer based in London, the Stair Rover is said to be able to navigate the stairs with the same ease as a regular skateboard travels around regular obstacles.

The model is developed to follow the contours of the stairs and thus sports a bunch of pivoting pair of trucks. Installed two-per-side, these pivots come mated to eight wheels that allow the wheels to adjust and adapt to the edges of the contact surface as a skateboarder navigates down a flight of stairs.

Flexible materials are also used to fashion the deck of the board with bamboo and maple providing it the necessary flexibility to make maneuvering staircases easier. The wheels and other hardware are fashioned out of aluminum while rubber further cushions the ride for the skateboarder. We are a little disappointed that the designer did not provide us with a video demonstrating just how the wonderful board makes the journey over a flight of stairs smoothly but we’re sure some daredevil skateboarder out there will put his own trial of the Stair Rover on YouTube soon enough.
