Silver Age Batman game may feature Superman

Warner Bros. seems to be on a Justice League trend at the moment. It has seen huge success with Lego Batman 2 that was mostly centred around Batman and Robin, but also included the likes of Green Lantern, Superman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman. These superheroes will also come together for fighting game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, next year.
There’s another superhero game in development though, and one that could include a number of well-known characters alongside Batman. It has come to light that RockSteady’s next Batman game will be a prequel based on the Silver Age Batman comics which began in the 1950s.
The Silver Age comics saw Batman teaming up with other superheroes, in particular, Superman. Most importantly, it’s when Batman first met his greatest enemy: The Joker. In the same time period Batman becomes a founding member of the Justice League, so it’s not entirely impossible that other superheroes will appear in the next Batman game, too.
However, it’s likely RockSteady will be focusing on when the Batman comics suddenly got darker, which is when Joker appeared as a homicidal psychopath and when Batman worked mostly alone. On occassion he worked with Batgirl and Robin, as well as Superman, so all or none of them could make an appearance. During the Silver Age we also see the arrival of Ra’s al Ghul.
Sadly, Mark Hamill has already said he won’t be back to voice The Joker, which is a shame as it’s one of his most iconic roles. But it does make sense for Warner Bros. to cash in on the likes of the Justice League after the huge box office success that is The Avengers.
If you’re excited by this next Batman game though, you have a while to wait as it isn’t going to see a release until at least 2014, meaning it will probably be a next generation console game. Warner Bros. want to focus on Injustice: Gods Among Us first.
RockSteady’s Batman sequel, Batman: Arkham City, sold 2 million copies in its first week of release, and the prequel is sure to break even more records when it arrives.
