Leaked Windows 8 screenshots confirm Aero Glass is dead

Not all Windows features stick about forever, it seems. And with the venerable old Commence Menu currently place out to pasture, it was much much less surprising to find out that Microsoft was also pulling the plug on Aero Glass. Though it is still on by default in the Windows 8 Release Preview, Glass was due to be uprooted by the time the RTM arrived this fall.
Based on some new screenshots that have appeared on Winunleaked.tk, the process is nicely beneath way. The colors and appearance window has lost its transparency checkbox, and the color swatches are now single-color swatches with no faux-gloss effect. Fortunately, if you’re not a fan of the pastel-ish default selection, the color intensity slider and color mixer stay intact so that you can totally customize the appear of your desktop.
The goal, of course, is to impart a somewhat Metro appear to the legacy Windows desktop. The overhaul isn’t total, of course. While Aero Glass is gone and window chrome and specific UI elements have been changed, numerous of the default Windows icons haven’t been redone.
Regardless of whether or not these facts will be given a Metro make-below for the RTM remains to be seen. Based on the reality that the up arrow in Windows Explorer has lastly been switch from the glossy, blue version noticed in the Windows 8 previews, there’s a good opportunity Microsoft’s simplified design language will overtake Desktop mode, also.
If you are not pleased about the death of Aero Glass, have no fear: it is only a matter of time before third-celebration apps will surface that permit you to resurrect it.
