The Competition – App Review
My kids love to read and I’m always on the lookout for good kids books to share with family and friends. The Competition HD by Dutch publishing house Unieboek | Het Spectrum is a cute story with brightly colored illustrations and multiple reading options. It’s the first release in a five book series with additional titles coming in September.
A story about a little goldfish’s adventure to find the boy that owns him, The Competition is a good picture book for kids. Pim, a young boy, is forced by his father to dump his goldfish into the river because of a family vacation to the beach. Goldfish Harry (the English version) hears the word competition mentioned as he’s dumped out of his bowl and that’s enough to get him motivated to swim to the competition and find Pim. He meets a number of characters during his adventure, eventually reaching his destination and finding exactly what he’s been looking for.
Users have several reading options in The Competition. They may listen to the story, read the story themselves or select “learn to read” and have the story read to them as each word is highlighted. Readers aren’t limited to these three reading options alone. They also have five different languages from which to choose, with professional narration available in English (British), Flemish, French, German and Spanish.

Galaxy Tab Is Headed To Verizon’s Network
There are finally some leaked internal screen shots showing that the Galaxy Tab will no doubt be coming to the big red, Verizon Wireless. We had a sneaking suspicion that it would be available through Verizon but didn’t want to count our chickens before they hatched.

Does this mean this is the only carrier that the Samsung made tablet will be available on? We are not sure about that one, but we sure are curious about what the data rates will be, and if there will be subsidized pricing with a contract agreement option. We have said it once and will say it again, we are ready to get our hands on this beautiful 7 inch slate.
AS&E’s Z Backscatter Vans are like scanners on wheels
Some of you might remember the Thruvision TS4 scanner, a way to see through a body without the use of radiation.
There has been much talk about privacy issues with these types of scanners. The issue just got more interesting with the AS&E’s Z Backscatter Vans.
These Vans are able to bounce a narrow stream of x-rays through nearby objects. Absorbed rays show dense material such as steel, but scattered rays can indicate less-dense objects like explosives, drugs or human bodies.
Dude Makes His TI-89 Graphing Calculator ‘Tonka-Tough’ With Custom Milled Aluminum Housing

By Andrew Liszewski
What do you do when you drop your expensive graphing calculator on the floor, irreparably damaging the outer housing? Well since it’s not made of recycled paper like a certain alarm clock, you can either buy a new one or salvage and install the innards in a replacement housing made from custom milled aluminum. That’s exactly what University of Iowa industrial engineering student ‘Howard C.’ did, which cost him $50. And even though the calculator’s new housing might be a bit bulkier and heavier than the original, rest assured the next time it’s knocked to the floor the only think breaking will be Howard’s toes.
