Are iPad Owners Selfish Elites?

According to an article published by Wired yesterday, a new study about the psychological profile of iPad owners suggests that most of them are wealthy, well-educated, sophisticated, power-hungry, over-achieving and disproportionately interested in business and finance, while at the same time altruism and kindness are not their forte. In other words, iPad owners are selfish elites . Interestingly enough, on the other side of the spectrum, the majority of iPad critics never actually played with the device. This group tends to be composed of self-directed young people who look down on conformity and are interested in videogames, computers, electronics, science and the internet. In other words, iPad critics are dubbed independent geeks , and owning an iPad would be a sign of conformance, something they seem to despise. The study, conducted by the folks at the consumer research firm MyType on 20,000 iPad owners and critics, also gives pointers to explain the somewhat surprising results: in their opinion, both the iPad price tag and the fact that the device is more or less “superfluous” seem to appeal to self-centered workaholics who value power and achievement and tend not to be kind or to help others. On the other hand, the main reason why iPad critics are so vehement can be explained by the fact that bashing the iPad is no more than an identity statement for them. Note that these results should be taken with a grain of salt, as based on what we have seen so far, the reality is a lot more gray than what Wired and MyType reported. Also, if you are an iPad owner and disagree with the fact that you have been dubbed a selfish elitist, you may want to start here . Apple Sued for iPad Overheating in Warm Environments

Bloomberg reported yesterday that a class action lawsuit, named Baltazar v. Apple Inc., has been filed against Apple in an Oakland, California federal court. The plaintiffs state that the iPad “overheats so quickly under common weather conditions that it does not live up to the reasonable consumer’s expectations created by Apple”. While we did experience the issue with one of our iPads (see here for details), it only happened once, and we never managed to reproduce it in normal weather conditions, so we seriously doubt this lawsuit will go anywhwere. Wait and see. Tags : lawsuit , overheating Category : iPad News Powered by WizardRSS | Full Text RSS Feeds

NEWS: VIDEO: Apple iOS 4.1 test – iPhone 4 fix or not?

We run the developer’s version of the operating system and give it a whirl…
ios 4 update test 0 NEWS: VIDEO: Apple iOS 4.1 test iPhone 4 fix or not?

Apparently, iOS 4.1 is meant to fix, somewhat, the death grip problem with the iPhone 4. It features a software fix that reduces the effect of holding the antenna in a certain way on the reduction of signal strength.

So we’ve downloaded the developers’ version of the updated operating system, installed it on an iPhone 4, and checked out whether it really has nullified the issues that have irked so many other tech sites and journalists.

During our test, as seen in the video filmed by PL’s editor Stuart, the bars still drop, just not to zero, like before. And, although they clearly disappear still, the signal remains loud and clear at both ends of the call. Essentially, we’re not sure how much effect the new version of the OS is having, but we’re certainly not having any trouble with the audio.

Now, all that remains is Apple’s press conference to fill us in on any gaps, and the general release of the patch.

HyperMac Stand Adds 16 Hours to Your iPad Battery

hyper1 HyperMac Stand Adds 16 Hours to Your iPad BatteryWhen the iPad hit the streets a few months ago, many were impressed with the device for a lot of reasons. One of the features many folks liked was that they could get up to 10 hours of battery on a single charge.

You would think that 10 hours of battery charge would be plenty for everyone. However, it seems that for some people that still isn’t enough. Perhaps, there are a lot of people out there planning to do lots of writing and editing, or reading, or playing games and watching movies while on vacation.

Sanho, maker of AC-outlet external batteries for several Apple products, has released the new HyperMac Stand for iPad with a built-in battery. The HyperMac Stand has a rectangular shape with two rubberized “soft-touch” slots to accommodate your iPad. One slot is angled at 18 degrees allowing you to type comfortably. The other slot is angled at 45 degrees and becomes more friendly to presentations and movie-watching.

Sanho has designed the stand in such a way that you can even fit your iPad while using Apple’s official iPad case. But, one of the main features surrounding this stand is the built-in 16 hour battery pack.

Kyocera Zio Gets Preorder Page for Cricket Wireless

It’s been a long time since we’ve heard anything about the Zio from Kyocera. Which isn’t a bad thing, more or less, but it could be, considering the device itself isn’t the worst Android-based handset to get released this year. In fact, it would actually be quite a catch for most people, and considering the phone line-up on Cricket Wireless right now, it’s pretty much the best device you can get for the carrier. So, if you’re wanting to take a look, here’s the preorder page . The rumored release date for the Zio is August 15th, and it would take full advantage of Cricket’s fully unlimited plan, which only runs $55. As a refresher, the Zio features a 3.5-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen display, 600MHz Qualcomm MSM7227 processor, a 3.2MP camera on the back of the device, and it will launch with Android 1.6. (Yes, we know — not cool .) As you can see from the image, it’s got a trackball, and it has plenty of hardware keys for you to take advantage of. It may not be the most attractive handset out there, but it’s certainly not the most disgusting, either. Price wise, you’ll be looking at somewhere between $250 and $300, but that’s without a contract. Oh, and yes. Kyocera is saying the Zio will be upgraded to Android 2.x at some point in the future, but they don’t give a clear time frame. Which we should expect. And considering you have to look at Cricket Wireless as the middleman, there’s no telling when that upgrade might happen. [ via Android and Me] ) View full post on Android Community
