NEWS: White iPhone 4 landing in days
New colour finally hitting UK Apple has confirmed that the yet-to-be-released white version of the iPhone 4 ?will be arriving in the UK by the end of the month. Steve Jobs made the announcement at the company’s emergency press conference, where it also confirmed that all iPhone 4 customers would be receiving a free bumper to stop problems with the “death grip” antenna issue. The news of the new coloured iPhone 4 will be welcomed by fans of the phone looking for something a bit lighter and friendlier than the current black offering. Earlier in the month confusion arose as to when the white models would be showing up after Sky News mistakenly showed tech journalist Claudine Beaumont’s review unit ?as a regular customer’s model. Will you be buying the white version? Let us know in the comments below. DROID X latest to get Apple’s antenna testing
Apple has already used the HTC Droid Eris as an example for why the iPhone 4 antenna issue is an industry-wide problem rather than something they alone face, and now they’ve spread their net to include one of the must-have Android smartphones of the moment, the Motorola DROID X. Fresh to the company’s antenna testing page is Verizon’s latest Android handset, showing how a tight grip around the lower portion of the rear of the DROID X is enough to knock if from three bars to zero.

“In weak signal areas,” Apple concludes, “this grip may negatively affect signal strength.” Of course, they don’t actually say that will result in dropped calls, but that’s certainly the implication.
We’ve not had any reception issues holding our DROID X review unit in a regular way, so we’d be interested to hear if those Android Community readers who have been able to buy the coveted smartphone are experiencing the same problems that Apple are highlighting. Let us know in the comments!

NEWS: Inside Apple’s antenna testing chambers
Steve Jobs pulls back the curtain on $100m development
How do you test a phone so that it only has around 15,000 people out of 3 million complaining??Apple?says you chuck it in their anechoic chambers.
Keen to prove that they really did test the new iPhone 4?to the limit, the company has shown off the testing facility that it has created to test its phones on Apple campus Infinite Loop.
Supposedly costing $100m to develop and build, every phone goes through the 17 different antenna characterisation chambers (or anechoic chambers) designed to accurately measure antenna and wireless performance.
But it’s not just a case of sticking in a room with lots of sticky outy bits, says Apple.
“Our anechoic chambers are connected to sophisticated equipment that simulates cellular base stations, Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth devices – even GPS satellites. These chambers measure performance in free space, in the presence of materials simulating human tissue (’phantom’ heads and hands, for example), and in use by human subjects”.

NEWS: HTC: Droid Eris complaints nothing compared to iPhone 4
EXCLUSIVE: HTC starts its fightback against Apple While HTC ?hasn’t yet come back with an official comment, in respect to Apple’s decision to highlight the Droid Eris’ performance at its emergency press conference, it was happy to let Pocket-lint know about how many of its customers have complained about the Droid Eris. If you remember, the Droid Eris was one of the handsets featured in the Apple press conference, now dubbed the? Antennagate ?conference, with Steve Jobs and Apple singling it out over more popular handsets like the all metal bodied HTC Legend, and the metal chassis HTC Desire or HTC Nexus One. So what percentage of people have complained? “Approximately .016% of customers”, Eric Lin, the company’s?global PR and online community manager?exclusively revealed to us before adding that “we have had very few complaints about signal or antenna problems on the Eris”. Admittedly it’s not as hard hitting as? Nokia or RIM’s ?”Apple’s attempt to draw RIM into Apple’s self-made debacle is unacceptable” statement, but hopefully that’s still to come. We will keep you posted. Read our? HTC Droid Eris review .
