Droid X Ad “Eagle Eye” Shows Off Blockbuster App

These advertisements for the Motorola Android devices, at least the ones that matter (not you, DEVOUR), are getting pretty ridiculous. And not in a bad way. We understand that Verizon’s pushing out a lot of money for marketing, and that’s why we’re going to keep seeing these ads that have the same kind of production values as a moderately good Sci-Fi flick on SyFy Channel (maybe that is a bad thing?). Either way, here’s another one for your viewing pleasure. It’s called “Eagle Eye,” but it’s not showing the movie with the same name. Nope, you’ll be provided with a quick glimpse of one of the Bourne flicks . . . The only troubling thing is, the super-fast means that you get to watch that movie. Considering we’ve tried, at least a few times, to watch any one of the movies we’ve downloaded from Blockbuster as quickly as they showcase in this ad, we can safely say it doesn’t happen. We’d like it to, but it doesn’t. So, hopefully no one out there decides on this handset for that reason alone. In any event, take a gander at the ad below, and let us know what you think in the comments. Do you think these commercials have the ability to bring new customers into the Android fold? The Captivate provides a premium viewing experience on its large 4-inch display powered by Samsung’s Super AMOLED touch screen technology. Super AMOLED technology yields thinner displays, delivering one of the thinnest, most responsive full-featured smartphones in the industry. In addition, the Samsung Captivate is designed with a six-axis sensor that combines the smartphone’s accelerometer and gyroscope to provide a smooth, fluid gaming experience when the user is tilting the device up or down or panning the phone to the left or right. The Captivate’s user interface also supports a series of advanced touch screen gestures capabilities including multi-touch pinch, long tap and zoom and vertical and horizontal swiping.

The Captivate keeps users connected with Samsung’s Social Hub, which is built around Messaging and Contacts, both of which initiate the sending and receiving of information, whether it is e-mail, instant messaging, social network updates or SMS messages. Additionally, calendar information from portal calendars, such as Google Calendar, and social networking services are displayed together in one calendar with two-way synchronization. The familiar text messaging experience is enhanced with group messaging and “reply all” functionality for up to 10 contacts, a threaded conversations format, a consolidated inbox, and enhanced multi-media display.

Motorola Portrait Slider Shows Off the Droid Eye

When it comes to Motorola, the DROID name is meant for high-end devices. That’s why their DEVOUR handset didn’t get the DROID title — it just didn’t make the cut. And, as far as anyone of us here know, that game plan hasn’t changed for Sanjay Jha and company. But, if these new blurry screenshots are any indication, then it looks like Motorola is looking to change up their high-end device line-up with a bit of a portrait slider-refresh.

Droid Pre Motorola Portrait Slider Shows Off the Droid Eye

There’s no hard details on whatever device this is. It’s obviously a portrait slider. It obviously has a keyboard that looks strikingly similar to the Motorola Charm’s. And it’s obviously booting up with that oh-so-familiar Droid eye. But, what does that tell us? One of two things, actually: either Motorola is changing everything around, and they’re going to start shoving the DROID title on every Android-based handset they’ve got planned for Verizon. Or, they’re planning on putting the specifications necessary to make a high-end device into a portrait slider.

Let’s face it: just because it has a certain form factor, doesn’t mean it’s going to be a mid-range device. Just look at the Palm Pre and Palm Pre Plus, folks. Portrait slider with a 3.2-inch touchscreen — but definitely not mid-range by any other notable feature. So, what’s Motorola’s plan? We wish we knew, but hopefully it all gets cleared up soon enough. Let us know in the comments if this handset is something you’d want in your collection.

Movies HD for iPad – App Review

movieshdicon Movies HD for iPad – App ReviewIf you happen to own a large collection of DVDs, a media center Mac/PC, or an Apple TV, you may want to check out Movies HD for iPad. Movies HD is a movie catalog application that helps you keep track of the movies you own. Movies are organized on shelves, similarly to iBooks, and the app lets you quickly add, find and view movies in your library.

Adding movies is simple, as the app will help you find all the info you need by simply looking for the movie title. Movies HD pulls the movie meta-data such as covers, actors and synopsis by dipping into online databases such as IMDb. Movies HD is also able to import databases coming from other similar desktop apps, such as Personal Video Database or DVD Profiler, or even from generic txt or csv files. One caveat though: if you happen to own a lot of movies, and never built your own movie database, the import process will likely be long and a bit painful.

The app also features nice add-ons, such as the use of cover flows in order to browse your movie collection – a great feature if you happen to have friends at home and want to let them pick the movie they want to watch. The app also lets you watch movie trailers, by automatically fetching them on sites like YouTube. Finally, if you don’t know what to watch, simply shake your iPad, and Movies HD will pick a movie for you.

Samsung Behold 2 for T-Mobile Android 1.6 Update Pulled

If you’re the (proud) owner of a Samsung Behold 2, then you know all about the chaos that happened when the manufacturer declared Android 1.6 was as good as it would get for updates. But, it’s better than nothing. Then again, you may look at it another way, and of course we can’t stop you. If you did get the update to Android 1.6, and you noticed that your device was suddenly having some signal issues, you actually aren’t the only one. In fact, it was happening enough that T-Mobile USA felt the need to pull the update completely. When wireless carriers roll out an OTA update, they do it in waves for one reason, amongst many: to see how the update interacts with users on their devices. It’s a great way to make sure that everything is working well, and without hitches. Unfortunately for this particular update, that’s not how things went. Signal issues apparently marred the update, and that’s forced T-Mobile’s hand. Sure, that’s going to rub a lot of folks the wrong way, but it gets worse: T-Mobile’s not saying when the update will show up again. That’s right: no future date, at the moment. With all of that doom and gloom aside, let’s look at the big picture, though. Things happen, updates don’t go the way we all want, and there’s no reason for T-Mobile to keep a flawed update available for people to download, and further mess up their handsets. That just wouldn’t make sense. With that in mind, did anyone out there with a Behold 2 that did get the update notice any signal discrepancies? [ via Tmo News] ) View full post on Android Community

Droid Incredible Reportedly Getting Android 2.2 by Early August

Were you able to get your hands on a Droid Incredible? We sure hope so, because one of Verizon’s best handsets is about to get better, if a ninja is speaking the truth. According to this particular ninja, it looks like the Incredible might actually be the first in line to get the Android 2.2 update. Well, perhaps tied, if the original Motorola Droid is still scheduled to get its own update by the end of July. In any event, the ninja suggests that the update will arrive on all Droid Incredible handsets (in the wild, at least), at the end of July, or by early August. So, what’s it include? Obviously, you get some of that Froyo goodness. You also get WiFi 802.11/n support, 3G Mobile Hotspot (which you’ll probably have to pay for), HTC Widget for Email and News, EAS updates, 720p video recording, Amazon MP3 access, Skype, and My Verizon applications. Basically, everything you’ve been waiting for, and more. So, start counting down the days, folks — the end of July is just right around the corner. Lighted Stovetop lets you pick the color

gorenje karimrashid if9Y7 121 Lighted Stovetop lets you pick the color

The first keyboard and mouse I owned that actually allowed me to pick the color of the lighting had me captivated.  To me it was the greatest invention ever created at the time.  Thankfully LED lighting has not been limited to just computer accessories.  Sure, there have been times when the LED lights go a little overboard, but in the case of this stovetop, it just enhances the looks.

This bright white style makes your stovetop look a whole lot more modern and chic.  If you’re the type that loves to paint and try all different colors just to change things up a little, then this would be a handy item to have around.  Not only is it filled with LED lights, but ones that change colors.  That means you can change out the coloring time and time again to go with your décor.  This is from Gorenje’s “Touch of Light” collection that was designed by Karim Rashid.  That sadly means that this will probably be a little hard to get your hands on by being either expensive or just limited in numbers.
