Hard Case for iPad – Gear Review

Whether you’re on the job site or in the office and just need a little more protection than the typical iPad case offers, the Hard Case for iPad might be for you.  We reported on the Hard Case last month and recently received a version for review.  Although this case is designed for specific markets, it provides perfect protection for those who need it. Hard Case is made of high quality aluminum and a weather resistant finish.  The clip on top for the case allows it to act as a clipboard and hold your important papers securely in place.  Push the latch and the flip top open to reveal thick high density polyurethane foam with a cutout for your iPad.  Surrounding on all sides by foam, your iPad is sure to stay protected and well hidden on the job site or anywhere else you use it.  Push the latch again and another compartment opens up.  Use it to store papers or hold pens and pencils. Designed to be the toughest iPad case on the market, Hard Case for iPad keeps your device safe at construction sites, hospitals, factories & other locations with a high likelihood of damage occurring. Cases are shipping now and really taking off.  Choose from two color choices – grey ($59.95) or black ($69.95) plus shipping ($14.50).  Bulk orders are available too.  See the Hard Case for iPad website to order or for more information. What we liked: Heavy duty protection for iPads used on construction sites, emergency personnel, military, plumbers, etc. What we didn’t like: The things that make it perfect for heavy duty protection limit it as a general use case. To buy or not to buy: Yes, if you need a great case to protect your iPad out in the field, the Hard Case for iPad is a great choice. Product Name: Hard Case for iPad Manufacturer: Bret Casper Price: $59.95 or $69.95 Score: Tags : cases , construction , heavy duty case , hospitals , military , plumbers Category : Gear Reviews , iPad News , iPad for Work Powered by WizardRSS | Full Text RSS Feeds

The new Elantra will be offered with a new 140-horsepower 1.6-liter 4-cylinder engine with direct injection technology.

Hulu Plus for iPad – Limited by TV Content Licenses

huluplus Hulu Plus for iPad – Limited by TV Content LicensesJust about 3 weeks ago Hulu announced their subscription TV service giving users access to an even deeper set of TV content over a number of new devices, including your iPad.

The new service, dubbed Hulu Plus, has been touted as a service that gives you access to full seasons of your favorite TV shows versus just a few recent episodes that you normally find on Hulu’s free service.

This week Hulu acknowledged that Hulu Plus users on some devices can’t get access to the entire video catalog. Owners of iPads, PS3 consoles and other Hulu viewing devices are finding out they only get a subset of all the video content available on the Hulu website.

But, why are they running into this problem? It’s simple. Anytime you want to provide someone else’s video content you must have the licensing rights to include some of the shows as part of your premium offering. Hulu doesn’t have the licensing for all TV shows and episodes out there.

In addition, the licensing for free episodes doesn’t transfer to Hulu’s $10 monthly subscription. This prevents Hulu from offering their full video catalog via their dedicated apps, such as the iPad app.

AirTurn turns sheet music electronically

airturn2 AirTurn turns sheet music electronically

Turning pages while playing a musical instrument takes almost as much talent as it takes to learn to play an instrument in the first place.  If you’ve switched to reading music on your laptop or iPad there is a way to make it easer to deal with pages.  Sadly this little page turning gadget won’t actually help you turn those paper pages that can be so troublesome.

The AirTurn connects wirelessly to your computer as a music reader.  To get it up and going you just need to plug the receiver into the USB port of your computer.  Then when you’re ready to turn the page you just have to tap your foot on the pedal.  It’ll work with most document programs, PDF readers and presentation programs.  You can get the AirTurn with pedals for $69.95 to $99.95.  It just depends if you want one or 2 pedals.  You can also go slightly cheaper and get one for $39.95, but that doesn’t include any pedals.

Smart Helmet detects how hard you have crashed

buildingabet Smart Helmet detects how hard you have crashedThis Smart Helmet, developed by Northeastern University researchers, is designed for skiers, even though I never remember skiing with a helmet on. Of course, I never biked with a helmet on either, and I think that is a requirement now. I don’t know about wearing a helm on the slopes.

The purpose of the smart helmet is to detect how much it has been impacted. Apparently, a lot of skiers are injured by hitting things like trees, rocks, and stuff.

The Smart Helmet can somehow measure the acceleration and impact, and can then report any potential injury that is based on the force of the impact.

Super Mario Kart: The Board Game

mariokart game 292x300 Super Mario Kart: The Board GameThe other day, I discovered something very disturbing about myself and the rest of the world: we are addicted to franchises. Most of the movies this summer have been sequels or movie-versions of concepts with a proven track-record of success. I went and saw The Last Airbender, and even though I enjoyed the film, I realized that I had paid to see a movie that didn’t need to be made, because Avatar:The Last Airbender series was so good.

In the same manner, I can honestly say that we probably don’t need this board game version of Super Mario Kart. After all, there is already a video game of the same name that will give players more of a rush, and the board game looks despairingly unoriginal. I’ve seen games where two players go head-to-head, and have to maneuver marbles across obstacles before. The only difference is that Super Mario Kart version has some authentic sound effects from the video game. Of course, I don’t want to judge it too harshly simply because it is part of a franchise, I haven’t played it for myself.

This board game was created by Epoch, and it was on display at the 2010 Tokyo Toy Show. I would imagine that it will probably be out shortly. Not only that, it will probably make the amount of money that it is projected, maybe even more. This is what happens when you bank on franchises.

Transformer Business cards are more than meets the eye

500x business card transfomrer 300x151 Transformer Business cards are more than meets the eyeOkay, I will readily admit that the headline for this post was the most obvious pun I could make with this subject matter.

However, can you really blame me? This business card, designed by Tamiya, a Japanese model kit maker, has encapsulated all the joy of pre-made plastic model kits.

The ideas is that you have your name on it, and the recipient can essentially break apart the letters from the logo and make a car, boat, or plane out of them. I notice that there is one solid piece that should probably contain the pertinent information.

After all, the purpose of a business card is so someone can recommend you. It would totally suck if they finished assembling a cool model out of your logo and name, decided that they wanted your business, and would have no idea how to contact you.

Of course, you realize that you would have to give a separate card with instructions. Unless you want to post the instructions on your business website. Now that would give a potential client a reason for going to your site!
