Big Fork Little Fork for iPad – App Review
One of the jobs of a parent is to teach your kids how to make responsible choices as they grow up. As obesity becomes a problem of epidemic proportion in the US, good nutrition is a topic all parents should be teaching their children. The people at Kraft Foods recently released an app for the iPad to help you do just that. Big Fork Little Fork is a resource for parents to use in teaching their kids about smart eating habits and have some fun while doing it. Kraft’s new app is easy to use, has great pictures and includes lots of information. The Cook option contains everything from recipes for the pickiest eater to desserts for special occasions. Included in each recipe is a picture, rating, list of ingredients, directions on how to make it and nutritional information. You’ll also find tips and additional recipe suggestions to scroll through at the bottom of the page. Some of the recipes choices are questionable when it comes to “healthy” choices but they can help teach a lesson in moderation. The W atch, Tips and Learn options provide great information and suggestions for parents and kids. Watch how-to or recipe videos with your kids and learn how to crack an egg or make Jell-O Magic Mousse. Look for exercise, nutrition, snacking and lots of other tips in the Tips and Learn sections. And what good is an app for kids without a little fun? Check out Space Picnic and Berwyn’s Deli to play and learn about good nutrition and food portions as they do. These games will keep kids busy collecting the right amount of food to fulfill an outer space mission or collect money and run their very own deli by weighing and measuring food items for customers. What I liked: Good tips, easy to use, fun for kids and parents. What I didn’t like: Would like to see more healthy choice recipes. To buy or not to buy: Yes, overall I think this app is a good one. I don’t know that I would make the recipes very often but every once in a while, they’d be fine. Also, I really like all the nutritional tips.
