HTC Expects to have Android 2.2 Updates Finished by Christmas
According to HTC, the Desire is getting a Froyo-based update in August, but unfortunately other smartphones like the Wildfire, Incredible and EVO 4G will not be as lucky. The global PR and online community manager at HTC, Eric Lin, believes they will be done with Froyo testing before Christmas, so that’s when those other devices should expect an update. He also explained that it takes a lot of time to port all of their applications over to Froyo, and make sure that it runs well on all of their devices.

That is not like a one week kind of project or small task to do (which is true and reasonable). He also said that they need to make sure that all the applications are taking advantage of the Froyo features. Apparently, the HTC official said that Gingerbread (Android 3.0, reportedly) will be coming in the first quarter of 2011. So unless HTC already has an idea for their launch device, it may be a few months into 2011 before we see an HTC manufactured device with Gingerbread. Contrary to popular rumors, of course.

Droid X Shows Off the Future with Flash 10.1 Demo
Adobe’s Flash 10.1 might not be something new to talk about in of itself, simply because there’s been plenty of leaks for the Nexus One and even the Droid, but seeing it demoed on the Droid X is still something to get excited about. That’s a 4.3-inch screen of beauty. And seeing what the future holds for this device is good. Really, really good.

The Droid X will launch with Android 2.1 on the 15th of this month, but will get upgraded to Android 2.2 some time in August, we hope. As for the original Droid? Well, if those rumors of July 13th pan out, they’ll be rolling in the Android 2.2-goodness even before the launch of the Droid X. Enjoy the video below.

Countertop display tells you what to do with your food
Some of you might remember when we reported on the Smart Fridge that can tally the food in your fridge, and even figure out what recipes to make from them.
This is the Oasis system, which takes essentially the same technology and puts it on the kitchen countertop. For example, slapping a side of beef on the countertop will cause the nutritional stats to be displayed next to it, thanks to the pico-projector that is mounted above the counter.
When you put the green pepper beside it, you can get a whole bunch of great recipes. I would assume that it would suggest steak fajitas. I wonder if you assemble all the ingredients, it will even show you the recipes with videos and such.
I wonder if future advancements could make it detect whether the food is good or not, and then project a red X on it or something.
My source even imagines this tech being taken out of the kitchen and into every room. For example, a bathroom counter that can identify pills, and a living room table that can detect…chip and dip combinations.
LCD Pinball display at Nike store in Spain
Some of you might remember a few years ago when we reported on a pinball machine with a plasma screen. The device in question looked like the image to the right.
However, if you hit the jump, you can watch a video of a digital pinball machine that takes this technology to the next level. As you can see, this Nike pinball machine, located in Spain, is not limited to a backboard to achieve its theme.
Right now, it is set to a “soccer” theme as part of Nike’s “Write the Future” campaign for the World Cup. You will even note that the pinball is a soccer ball and the flippers are Nike Shoes. Okay, that last part is just shameless promotion, but if there is one thing that Nike is good for, it is promotion.
However, I don’t see why this pinball machine couldn’t be some other theme. Say you like Indiana Jones, for example. Then the pinball could be the giant rolling rock at the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark and have the flippers be guns or mini-Indys, or something.
My point is that having two displays can make for pinball machines with very interesting and unlimited effects. Of course, the ball is virtual, so you might not have the element of tilting that you might have been able to do before. I guess with every technological advancement, there is a loss.
