Yu Kwang Soo’s Speaker Furniture

speaker furniture by yu kwang soo TULxl 48 Yu Kwang Soo’s Speaker Furniture

If you’re bored of looking at all of the furniture with speakers built into it that are currently out on the market, you should check out these new items from the designer Yu Kwang Soo.  It all has a very luxurious feel and makes sure that your music is always nearby.  It’s all being created for the DMY International Design Festival Berlin 2010, but those of you that won’t be making it to the festival can at least take a look at things online.

Of course were this ever to be created and put up for sale, I’m sure this furniture wouldn’t go for cheap.  However, it’s fun to see how designers integrate speakers into random pieces of furniture.  These are made to work with all of you portable music players, but it can also play CD’s as well.  You can view the rest of the Korean designer’s work by going here.

Chase Lets Users Deposit Checks Via Their iPhone

chase deposit1 thumb 550xauto 42219 Chase Lets Users Deposit Checks Via Their iPhone

By Chris Scott Barr

Last year we told you that USAA was allowing some customers to deposit checks via their iPhone. This was a really awesome idea that would surely catch on quickly with other banks. After nearly 11 months, Chase is now only the second bank to offer such a service. However, since they are a much larger bank, others will no doubt feel pressured to release their own apps.

The app is simply an update to their existing iPhone app. To scan a check, you need only select the appropriate menu item, and take pics of the front and back of the check. Enter the amount, and you’re on your way. The only thing easier than using this app is not using checks at all. Seriously, these things need to die. Oh, and if you’re one of those people that still writes checks at the grocery store, stop that. You’re holding up the line.

Facebook’s New Face Detection Technology Will Make Tagging a Lot Easier

Facebook has always been more than eager to keep itself updated. After coming alive six years ago, many updates and changes have been made to keep the looks fresh, experience easy and bring new and interesting features for its users. And in tune with its policy, Facebook is testing a face detection technology to bring a new feature that would help you a lot in tagging friends in a photo. You love tagging photos, don’t you? With face detection technology users will need to react to a prompt that tries to identifies a friend in the photo, and gives a suggestion. User can either accept the suggestion or deny it, to select the friend manually. The users will be required to select a photo of each friend which will be used for auto face detection by Facebook’s new feature. Once done, it will be used to make a match with every photo selected for tagging. Thereby, users will get suggestions, wherever the match is found, and will be able to tag a friend or whoever, with one just click. Yes, that convenient and fast. FB photo test Facebook’s New Face Detection Technology Will Make Tagging a Lot Easier Currently, users have to select a person from the photo by clicking thereon for tagging. Then, he needs to manually identify a friend to be tagged therein. While it’s not cumbersome but when the number of persons in a photo are more — like in case of a group photo — it becomes tedious to click and select manually for so many persons. And boring too. The new features will come as a boon to those who use the tagging feature heavily. Facebook is reported to be done with testing and now is in the launch stage of the above discussed feature. The new feature will be launched gradually, keeping an eye on the user satisfaction. If you don’t get the update right now, be patient since if it proves successful, it will be available for every facebook users. By the way, it is just one of the features that Facebook is planning for taking the experience with images to next level. We will surely bring you more on features as soon as they are out. Keep watching this space. Check this cool stuff too:- Lego facebook (really!) and a Stamp of facebook like button, cool. Via Mashable

Researchers say any USB peripheral could steal your data, even a coffee-cup warmer

Researchers say any USB peripheral could steal your data, even a coffee cup warmerSo you’ve got a nice secure thumbdrive, but did you ever think to lock its port? Engineers at the Royal Military College of Canada say the plug and play functionality built into most computers automatically trusts whatever’s plugged into the USB slot. That doesn’t just go for flash drives left out on the street, but all manner of other peripherals as well, as the trio of triumphant researchers demonstrated when they (presumably) infiltrated colleagues’ offices with a totally sweet spy keyboard. That particular device flashed an LED or made the mark’s sound card warble to covertly transmit stolen data, but such exotic methods are reportedly not required — so you’ve yet another reason to cringe when your coworker trots out his Humping Dog.

Canon Japan To Introduce Fingerprint Scanners To Cut Down On Photocopy Abusers

By Andrew Liszewski

Looks like you office photocopy abusers are going to have to find an alternative way to get the word out about your garage sale or lost dog, if you live and work in Japan at least. While security codes or access cards can be easily shared around the office, Canon Japan’s new fingerprint authentication system, developed by Hitachi, means those with photocopier privileges will actually have to be at the machine in order for it to work. The option will be available on Canon’s imageRUNNER ADVANCE line of multi-function printers which can run MEAP (a Java J2ME-based development platform) applications and will be available starting July 8 for around $1,460. (128,000 yen)

Surprisingly Detailed Concrete Sofa – The Future Of Park Benches?

concrete sofa Surprisingly Detailed Concrete Sofa – The Future Of Park Benches?
By Andrew Liszewski

While this chesterfield sofa might look like it’s made from a bland gray leather, believe it or not it’s actually made from concrete. It was created by a UK-based company called Gray Concrete, appropriately enough, for the 100% Design exhibition in London, and the incredible amount of detail in it was captured using the company’s special molding techniques. Not only does it look like it’s made from actual leather, but they went the extra mile by ensuring the cushions have ‘bum prints’ and you’ll even find a concrete fifty pence coin stuck behind one of them. Now obviously the piece was created to show just how versatile concrete can be, but I think you could really class up a city by replacing its traditional park benches with durable, concrete reproductions of famous pieces of furniture.
