According to Hyundai, its new 274-horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine for the 2011 Sonata sedan is going to be a real gem. To wit, the Korean automaker says the boosted-four will propel its midsize sedan to 60 miles per hour in just 6.5 seconds. That’s serious speed for the segment and it means the Sonata will at least have the accelerative chops to stick with the rest of the sport sedan competition.

Of course, these days frugality is just as important as horsepower, and Hyundai assures us that its 2.0T-powered Sonata will be able to return the promised 22 miles per gallon in the city and 34 on the highway – all on regular-grade fuel. For those who like to keep track of such things, Hyundai claims those figures are 16% and 17% better respectively than the outgoing 3.5-liter V6.

Want more? Well, that’s all we can share for now… but our initial driving impressions will be on their way just as soon as Hyundai gives the word. Stay tuned.

Droid X Hands-On First Impressions [Video]

Now that the Droid X is official, and the press conference itself is over, we can finally get some hands-on time with the brand new device announced not just by Motorola, but by Google, Adobe, and Verizon Wireless as a collective mass. It’s a beast of a device: featuring a 4.3-inch 16:9 capacitive touchscreen display, a 1GHz OMAP processor under the hood, with Android 2.1 at launch, and an expected update to Android 2.2 “later this Summer.”

So, with that in mind, and plenty of other extras you can read about right here, at the official launch page, take a gander at the videos below, and take the Droid X in. Because you need to. Without saying as much, Verizon, Motorola, and Google are positioning this as the iPhone 4 combatant, and even if you’re not a huge fan of Android, one probably couldn’t argue that truth.

So, go ahead and take in the video. And, of course, this goes without saying, but we’ll say it anyway: let us know in the comments what you think of the new Droid. Is it going to be your next phone? Already waiting in line? Let us know!

Froyo Code published to AOSP right now

Google announced at the I/O conference that the Froyo Code in the coming weeks would be released. It will be released to an open source community, many are simply wondering how many weeks it will take. But the wait for this is over as Froyo code is beginning to be dropped into the Android Open Source Project right now. This likely means it’ll be coming for handsets pretty soon. Handsets that are included include Android devices such as the Nexus One. Modders like Cyanogen will be able to begin building Froyo-based ROMs with the code out in the open. Development will probably be announced at the Droid X event, stay in touch for any more news. [ via Android Guys] ) View full post on Android Community

Report: Electric Audi A1 won’t be produced

Filed under: Concept Cars , Hybrid , Hatchback , Audi Audi A1 e-Tron - Click above for high-res image gallery According to a report out of Italy, Audi boss Rupert Stadler has said that the Audi A1 e-tron concept will not see production. Apparently the house of Audi believes that the conventional A1 will be sufficiently frugal and kind enough on the environment with its stop/start and brake energy recovery system. Additionally, there seems to be some issues with the A1’s platform and its ability to house all the necessary EV components. If true, ’tis a shame - that cargo-floor-mounted Wankel engine paired with lithium-ion batteries was supposed to be good for 154 mpg , and the A1 e-tron is a package we would have enjoyed by being so green we made grass jealous. Review: 2010 BMW 335i Sedan is what we’ve been missing

Filed under: Sedan , Performance , Europe , BMW , Reviews , Luxury 2010 BMW 335i Sedan - Click above for high-res image gallery We like to think of ourselves as a voice of the people - a place for the proletariat of the interwebs who clamor for an honest take on the latest automotive hardware. To that end, we’ve always viewed the constant stream of fawning over BMW with something of a jaundice eye. We get it. The company builds good products, but does it really deserve wave after wave of gushing prose in every car magazine? Even more troubling, does the 3 Series deserve its honored position as the benchmark against which all other mid-sized sports sedans must be measured? In a word, yes. We say that almost against our plebeian nature, but if you’ve come searching for a scathing tear-down of the bread-and-butter 3, best point your clickers elsewhere. After a full week with the 2010 BMW 335i sedan, we’ve come to understand why the bastions of auto-journodom have spent the last 10 years drinking the BMW Kool-Aid. It’s just that good. Read on to find out why the latest 3 Series continues the tradition. Gallery: Review: 2010 BMW 335i Sedan Photos by Zach Bowman / Copyright (C)2010 Weblogs, Inc. BlueAnt Adds Text to Speech Android Apps for its Bluetooth Speaker

BlueAnt today released Android applications for its S4 True Handsfree Car Speakerphone and the T1 Rugged Bluetooth Headset on the Android Market. Like BlueAnt’s Q1 Android Application, which launched earlier this year, the new applications allow T1 and S4 users to hear incoming text messages read aloud automatically. The applications also provide help with pairing the devices, support tips, and a direct link to the BlueAnt Customer Service team. “These applications are just another example of how we offer our users a true handsfree experience and a seamless integration between their BlueAnt device and their smartphone,” said Taisen Maddern, Executive Chairman of BlueAnt Wireless. “The applications also demonstrate that our commitment to supporting our users continues long after they leave the store. As well as adding extra features and enhancements through free applications such as these, we also release regular firmware upgrades to add new features to our devices. These are available for users to download from our website, free of charge, and apply to their BlueAnt device.” The applications work with any Android handset running Android OS 2.0 or above, and are available as a free download for all S4 and T1 owners. App Store at slightly more than break even, Tesco iPhone 4 prices, iPhone 4 teardown

Apple likes to talk about the huge amounts of apps that it has sold via the App Store. Analysts from Piper Jaffray looked at some comments made by Steve Jobs and worked out the numbers for the App Store. If correct, the App Store makes about $189 million gross.

UK iPhone carrier Tesco has announced its pricing for the iPhone 4 and the prices are probably the best around. A 12-month contract plan with 1GB of DATA will cost £20 monthly with the iPhone 4 16GB handset costing £349. Pay £45 monthly and agree to a 2-year contract and that 16GB iPhone is only £19.

iFixit has torn down the new iPhone 4 and found that the device uses Gorilla Glass and has 512MB of RAM. The tear down also found a FM radio inside and noted that the LCD and digitizer are glued to the glass making a replacement costly.
