Turnabout Is Fair Play: Hyundai takes up Mini challenge – click above to watch the video after the jump
Mini can safely be considered the 800-pound gorilla of viral marketing in the automotive sector, but fresh from its big showing this year with its Assurance program and successful Super Bowl appearances, Hyundai is showing real pluck. Need more proof? The boys from Korea have just stepped up to stand in for Porsche, offering to take on Mini at its Road Atlanta Challenge.
In a smack-talk-tastic video response they’ve released to Mini USA head Jim McDowell, Hyundai says they’re eager to bring their Genesis Coupe to Hotlanta raceway next month. What about Mini’s planned June 21 event? Seems Hyundai race driver Rhys Millen is a bit busy getting ready to climb a certain mountain, so Hyundai is challenging Mini to a race in July.
As Hyundai spokesman Dan Bedore tells Autoblog, “Since we launched the Genesis Coupe, we’ve always said that we’ll take on all-comers when it comes to comparison tests. And we’ve had some experience on the race track at Road Atlanta. We’d be happy to meet Mini on the race track.”
To step in and offer to take a punch for someone you don’t really even consider a buddy (read: Porsche) is either bold or downright crazy – or more than likely, some glorious combination of the two – but either way, it takes serious cojones. Will Mini step up to the challenge? Better still, might there be a three-way battle royale? Check out the video after the jump and stay tuned, everyone… this just got interesting.
Kobo eReader and Store Launches for Android
If you’ve never heard of Kobo, we can’t really fault you. But, to be fair, they’re literally everywhere. Today marks the official announcement that the eReader, which may be better known for its tie-in with Borders bookstores, along with its global eBook store, is heading to the Android mobile Operating System (OS). Yes, this beats Amazon’s Kindle app by a at least several weeks, so it’s probably something you’ll want to give a shot if you’ve been waiting for a good eReader to hit your favorite handset.

If you already have a Kobo account, then you’ll be happy to know that all your purchased books will go ahead and appear right on your device (right after a quick sync, of course). Kobo itself supports ePub, and there’s upwards of 2 million titles in its online bookstore for you to peruse on your device. You’ll also be able to buy books right from your device, thankfully. And, yes, if you’re still staring at that picture, it certainly does look like a device bred from the Nokia pits, but we won’t hold that against Kobo. (That doesn’t mean you can’t, though.) If you’re interested in checking it out, the application should be available in the Market right now, but we’re hearing contradictory statements from folks. So if it isn’t there, just keep checking throughout the day until you find it. If you download it, let us know what you think.
Press Release:
iOS4 Multitasking Capabilities Demonstrated by Navigon
Navigon, a software shop that builds GPS navigation software, just released a video showcasing one of its applications running on iOS4.
The video showcases fast app switching between the Navigon app and Safari, in order to browse the web without having to terminate the navigation app. The video also shows how the app is still able to give directions to the end user while a phone call takes place (this last use case may not be relevant to the iPad, but is a nice illustration of what multitasking will actually look like when multiple apps will be allowed to run at the same time).
Multitasking will come to the iPhone and the iPad via the iOS4 update, scheduled to be available on June 24th.
Motorola XT720 Heading to Germany
The XT720 is already heading to the UK in July, this much we know. And, we’ve heard plenty of rumors that it’s going to show up here locally on T-Mobile USA’s network some time in the future. So, where’s it missing? How about Germany? That’s where you were thinking, right? If you find yourself in Germany and in need of a new Android fix, then it looks like Motorola’s got you covered. Details, details. The Motorola XT720 is an all-touchscreen device, which rounds out at 3.7-inches, featuring a resolution of 480
HTC Aria for AT&T Arriving in Some Stores Early
So much for a release date, right? Originally scheduled to go on sale June 20th (and we’re sure AT&T’s still sticking to that date), it looks like a few lucky stores out there in the United States have begun to get their hands on the new Sense UI device. Thanks to a tipster, who managed to grab quite a few shots of the new device, unboxed, we can confirm that at least one device, somewhere, made it to a store and broke cover early. We can’t say for sure that it’s everywhere. In fact, we put a call into our local AT&T retailer, and they told us they didn’t have any in. We figure that means they don’t have any to sell to us, not that they don’t have any in. But, it’s pretty much the same thing for us customers. That doesn’t mean it’s not in your area, though. So, if you’re interested in the 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen, Sense UI, and Android 2.1 on a device that’s crippled from third-party application downloads, then here’s the device for you. Just get ready to spend $129.99. Check out our hands-on , too, before you make your judgment call. [ via Engadget] ) View full post on Android Community
