StopTech builds trackday BMW M3, takes pretty pictures
Filed under: Aftermarket , Coupe , Performance , Europe , BMW StopTech BMW M3 - Click above for high-res image gallery The boys and girls at StopTech have taken the knife to the new BMW M3 - cutting unsprung weight and upping the horsepower to improve on the car’s strong points. The company started by ditching the stock brake system and replacing it with - you guessed it - StopTech components. Up front, the car now wears forged aluminum six-piston calipers that clamp down on two-piece 15-inch rotors, while the rear has been treated to four-piston pieces that squeeze 14-inch discs. The company claims that the new hardware saves a total of 17.6 pounds of unsprung mass spread between the four corners. The stock wheels were also sacrificed in favor of new rollers from APP. Even at 19 inches, they manage to be 3.3 pounds lighter per wheel than what came from the factory. StopTech then turned to Collaction AG Widnau to give the car’s horsepower a mild bump. Final figures now sit at 450 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, though neither company is saying exactly what went into making that happen. We’re guessing a slight ECU reflash was part of the recipe. The whole kit and caboodle was then wrapped in a special silver vinyl by CFC - a company that specializes in unique vehicle wraps. Tasty. Nokia N97 Mini for Rogers Now Available
It’s been awhile since the N97, or the miniature variation for that matter, so we’re glad to pop up again. This time around, it’s launching up in the Great North, courtesy of Rogers Wireless. As far as we can tell, it’s coming only in black, so that means if you’re looking for the white version, you may be out of luck. That could change in the future, though. As for pricing, there’s not many surprises here, so check below for the full details. Rogers is positioning the device as a phone that helps you get things done, while having fun doing it. It comes with the obvious goodies: you get full access to the OVI Store, which will get you ringtones, wallpapers, games, and applications for your device. It will also come with OVI Maps pre-loaded (and a car dock as an included accessory, apparently), so you can use your new phone as a stand-alone GPS unit when you need it. As for pricing, you’ll be looking at $99.99 with a new, three-year contract. This, according to Rogers, is just a promotional plan, though, and you will need to sign up for a $45 monthly voice and data plan to get it. For a two-year contract? You’ll need to drop $399.99. While a one year will see you spending $449.99, and without a contract you’ll drop $499.99. Anyone out there thinking about picking up the N97 Mini? [ via MobileSyrup] View full post on SlashPhone
Video: Latest Gran Turismo 5 trailer reveals Stig, Vettel, and night racing
Filed under: Motorsports, Etc., Technology, Videos, Toys/Games

Now that we have an official launch date for Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 5, it’s hard to contain our anticipation. It doesn’t help that the company keeps teasing us with new trailers for the game, each showing some new bit of detail that we hadn’t foreseen or been previously able to confirm. The latest spot features a little voiceover action from none other than Sebastian Vettel. It’s hard to tell exactly what part the Formula One guru will play in the game, and our imaginations are running wild as a result.
The new trailer also gives us a glimpse at three of the most hotly talked about features of the game – damage rendering, night races and the Top Gear test track. There’s even a cameo by The Stig himself. Some say he lacks opposable thumbs and controls joysticks through a series of ultra high-frequency squeals. All we know is, he’s in Gran Turismo 5, and we can’t wait to get our greedy little paws on the game. We’ve never been so excited for November 2. Take a peek past the jump to see the video.

AT&T Halts Pre-Orders of iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS [Update]
Well, we told you things were getting pretty crazy yesterday, and even some of our commenters told us the same thing: Apple and AT&T were under some severe stress throughout most of the day. And, as much as we would have loved to see them get it figured out, it seems that the only way they could do that was to sell out of pre-order availability. Yeah, they have already sold out. And, without much stock to go around, AT&T’s pulled the plug on pre-orders. According to the website, if you try to pre-order the next phone from Apple, you’ll be kindly informed that not only are pre-orders halted right now for the iPhone 4, but they’ve also been grounded for the iPhone 3GS 8GB. And that goes for new customers, people wanting to upgrade, and even exchanges. So, basically, the net covers everyone. Apparently, there’s a bunch of people out there working to get through most of the customers out there who have a “pending” status on their order, but there’s no guarantee that they will all get figured out. So, here’s our question to you, dear reader. If you weren’t able to get your pre-order in, what’s the next step? Are you going to wait it out, or are you already looking at something else to replace what you couldn’t get? We know that the iPhone holds a soft spot in many people’s hearts, so does something like this make you want to jump ship, or stick it out? [Update]: Looks like Apple went ahead of the curve and managed to sell out of their 600,000 iPhone 4s over the course of one day. Which, you can probably guess, is the most pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day, ever. Check out the full, really short, press release just below to get the apology from Apple, too. Press Release: CUPERTINO, Calif., June 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Yesterday Apple and its carrier partners took pre-orders for more than 600,000 of Apple’s new iPhone 4. It was the largest number of pre-orders Apple has ever taken in a single day and was far higher than we anticipated, resulting in many order and approval system malfunctions. Many customers were turned away or abandoned the process in frustration. We apologize to everyone who encountered difficulties, and hope that they will try again or visit an Apple or carrier store once the iPhone 4 is in stock. [ via AT&T] View full post on SlashPhone
Introducing Google TV – Video
Google has just released a video that explains what exactly we can do with Google TV. As expected, it has great search features integrated that allows you to browse your own content as well as content on the web. Some televisions will come with Google TV preinstalled or you can purchase a set top box to convert your current television to Google TV. Google TV allows you to search for individual channel and even individual shows. It also allows you to search for shows to record and search shows that you have already recorded on your DVR. The feature that excites us the most is the built-in web browser. You’ll have the full internet displayed beautifully on your HDTV (a few of us already have this). This will give you access to everything on the web that you can find on your standalone computer. Each Google TV will have access to the Android Market and you can customize your home page with the content that interests you the most. Google TV is expected to debut this fall.
