RIM BlackBerry Bold 9800 Could Become BlackBerry Torch 9800
When it comes to a company like Research In Motion (RIM), you don’t have just handsets to think about. Or, what’s coming down the line. For a company like RIM, you have to think about the lineage of what’s come before, and what’s still to come. The family line Bold is a long, well renowned family, and one that’s respected all over the world. So, when we started seeing images of the BlackBerry Slider with stamps of Bold on the back, we were ready to welcome the very different device into the family. But, it looks like the folks up in Waterloo are thinking of a name change.

According to some sources speaking to CrackBerry, RIM is looking at changing the slider’s name from Bold to Torch. According to the sources, this decision isn’t final at all, but it’s being taken very seriously. We’re not sure what we think about it, but it’s pretty clear from the comments over at CB that folks are on the fence, too.
Some argue that the slider function makes it inherently not a member of the Bold family, but we wonder if a little enhancement such as this, especially with the inclusion of the touchscreen, would make a welcomed addition into the family. Then again, it could very well fit into the Storm family, too, we imagine. Maybe it is time for RIM to make a new family, where a whole new line of Torches can succeed or fall, all on their own merit. What do you think? Bold or Torch?
Avenged Increased Sevenfold: Spyker plans massive sales increase on C7 Aileron?
Filed under: Convertible, Coupe, Performance, Plants/Manufacturing, Earnings/Financials, Spyker, Specialty, Luxury

Here’s a shocker – Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker is looking to increase sales of its C8 Aileron to 250 units by 2012. That’s a sevenfold increase compared to the meager 36 vehicles the company managed to move in 2009. How will they do it? For starters, production will be moved to CAPP Manufacturing, Ltd. in England, allowing for greater production volume than in the past. So far, Spyker has sold just total of 214 cars since 2002. But the company also plans to make the C8 Aileron more attractive to American buyers by offering the car with a new automatic transmission.
The company is hoping that the new gearbox will make the car comfortable enough for buyers more interested in the vehicle’s luxury aspects than its performance credentials. Spyker says that the company received a good bit of demand for an automatic C8 from buyers in the U.S., China, Russia and the Middle East in the past.
News of the expanded sales targets also dovetails nicely with word that Spyker will be selling its wares through select Saab dealerships here in the States. It looks like we can forget about there not being enough of the $240,000 C8 Ailerons to go around.

Press Event: Unleashing the XTREME-ly large next-gen DROID
BREAKING NEWS! We just received an email invitation to witness the birth of Verizon’s next generation of DROID. Expect the house to be packed with important folks from Google, Motorola, Adobe and of course execs from Verizon. We’ll be there liveblogging the event starting at 1PM ET on June 23, 2010 (that’s right – the day before iPhone 4 goes on sale!). Make sure to log on to http://live.slashgear.com for our live coverage of the press event. It’s no BIG secret what we’re expecting to see at the launch event – it’s got to be the DROID XTREME (duh!). There have been lots and lots of sightings around town and it appears to feature a large 4.3” capacitive touchscreen, a 1GHz Snapdragon, HDMI out, a new version of MOTOBLUR and I suspect @androids 2.2 since Adobe is present at the event and Flash 10.1 only works on the latest version of Android. Long gone are the capacitive buttons replaced by good-old physical Home, Search, Back and Menu buttons. ) View full post on Android Community
Video: Hyundai goofs on Top Gear for new ix35/Tucson ads
Filed under: Marketing/Advertising , Videos , Crossover , Hyundai Click above to watch the videos after the jump At its best, Top Gear represents nearly everything we’ve ever wanted in a show about cars. It’s well-written, funny, beautifully shot and simply enjoyable to watch, even if ultimately it’s more about entertainment than full-fledged reviews. The advertising types at Hyundai have picked up on the cheeky part of Top Gear in an overseas commercial for the ix35 crossover (Tuscon here in the States). The ads, which apparently air in South Africa, very overtly spoof the BBC program, but with three animals making up the “Top Deer” team. Clarkson, Hammond and May are replaced with a wildebeest, hamster and a turtle. The Stig is replaced with a deer called “The Stag.” We usually loathe commercials that replace humans with adorable forest creatures, but this is a different animal altogether. The first spot features a one-on-one track battle between the ix35 and the Stag, and the second ad stars the Clarkson-esque wildebeest behind the wheel of the ix35. Very funny stuff. Report: Water as windshield wiper fluid causes 20% of Legionnaires’ Disease cases in UK
Filed under: Etc. , Safety , UK If you use standard tap water in your windshield washer fluid reservoir instead of a cleaner, you may have effectively turned your vehicle into a biological weapon. Sure, that sounds cool and all, but according to BBC News , the only person you’re going to be hurting is yourself. As it turns out, using plain water can cause the washer fluid system to become a breeding ground for Legionella bacterium - the same nastiness that causes Legionaires’ Disease and pneumonia. Spray your windshield and the bacteria becomes airborne, allowing it to easily enter your lungs and wreak havoc with your immune system. Researchers discovered the hive of scum and villainy lurking under the hood by attempting to discern why professional drivers were five times more likely to become ill than their amateur counterparts. After a little scientific sleuthing, the lab coats unearthed the bacteria. So do the world a favor and top off your windshield washer fluid reservoir with some sort of purpose-built cleaner. The stuff will kill the infection-causing bacteria and will keep the fluid from freezing in the winter. Not bad for 99 cents a gallon. Thanks for the tip, Kris! Suzuki recalls over 46,000 XL-7 and Grand Vitara SUVs due to faulty pulleys
Filed under: Government/Legal, Recalls, Safety, Suzuki

Suzuki is recalling 46,549 2006 model year Grand Vitara (shown) and 2005-2006 XL-7 SUVs for a potentially defective hydraulic power assist steering pump. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that the defect involves a plastic tension adjuster pulley for the drive belt that operates the steering pump and A/C compressor. Heat stress can apparently cause said plastic to deteriorate over time, which could lead to pieces of the pulley breaking off. The broken pieces can get lodged between the pulley and drive belt, possibly dislodging the belt and making it more difficult to steer.
Owners of affected vehicles can take their XL-7 or Grand Vitara to the nearest Suzuki dealer for a free repair, where the steering pump drive belt tension adjuster pulley will be replaced. Hit the jump to read over the official NHTSA press release.
