eBay Find of the Day: 2008 Fisker Latigo CS
Filed under: Aftermarket, Coupe, Performance, Auctions, BMW, Fisker, Design/Style, Luxury
Are you not a fan of the current BMW 6 Series? Can you not wait for the next-generation model? Are you looking for something a little more exclusive? Has Fisker caught your attention with the Karma, but not so much for its hybrid drivetrain? If your answer to any of these questions was an emphatic “yes,” then you may want to have a look at this eBay Motors listing.
Before kicking off his ambitious luxury hybrid project and after having penned such gorgeous sportscars as the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and BMW Z8 roadster, the noted Danish designer Henrik Fisker started his own coachbuilding operation. The California-based operation had two products: the Mercedes SL-based Tramonto and this, the BMW M6-based Latigo CS. Only 150 examples of each were made, and one of the latter – a post-revision 2008 model – has now popped up for grabs on eBay.
Mechanically, the Latigo is essentially the same as the M6 up which it is based, but Fisker managed to cut out some excess weight and enlisted the services of tuning house RDSport to tune the high-revving 5.0-liter V10 engine up to 648 horsepower. Stiffer springs and custom rolling stock are also part of the package, to say nothing of the exquisitely-crafted interior. This particular example has a Buy It Now sticker of $90,000; check it out in the extensive image gallery below or follow the link to the auction page.

HTC EVO 4G Screen Undergoes Scratch Test, Manages to Survive
When you’ve got a phone that, for all intents and purposes, is pretty much a giant screen, there’s something in the back of your head that’s got to constantly worry about scratching it. You wouldn’t want anything to happen to that beautiful piece of gadgetry, now would you? Well, lucky for the rest of us, who might forget a penny or two in the same pocket we put our device in, it looks like the EVO 4G from Sprint can take quite a beating. Or, scratching, to be more accurate.

A member of Android Central’s forum, Roman G, had an EVO that he was already sending back to Sprint due to some other physical problem, and so he figured that he would go ahead and put his unit through its paces. After all, scratch tests are pretty common place for touchscreens, so why wouldn’t the phone with the biggest touchscreen in the United States (alongside the HD2, of course), be tested? We’ll leave it up to the video to not ruin the surprise, but we’ll say this: we’re shocked at how much this screen can take. Gander the video below.

iPad and iPhone Manufacturer to Close Chinese Plants?
Foxconn, Apple’s contract manufacturer for the iPhone and iPad, is planning to close its mainland Chinese facilities according to Chinese news-site ON.CC (Google translated version). The article states that Foxconn plans to relocate most of the Chinese activities to Taiwan, Vietnam and India as well as other countries. The move could put hundreds of thousands of Chinese out of work and shift investments away form the region to other countries. Some estimates put the potential employment impact as high as 800,000 workers losing their jobs.
According to news site “The Register“, the restructuring was announced by the chairman of Hon Hai Group, Foxconn’s parent company, during a recent shareholders meeting.
This news comes on the heels of a series of suicides at Foxconn facilities by Chinese workers. The suicides received widespread press attention and forced several tech companies, including Apple, to send in their own investigators to assess the company’s working conditions.
There is no word on how a possible factory relocation might impact Apple and future product production.
Motorola Droid Xtreme Poses for Steady-Cam Photoshoot
Well, here you go. This here, folks, is the Motorola Droid Xtreme, alive and well, posing for some pretty solid photos. There’s a few we’ve seen before, but quite a few that we haven’t. And, to be honest, there’s a lot to like here. We’ll quit with the narrative pretty quick here, and after the break you’ll see plenty more photos, plus the run down of the specs you can expect to see when it launches (hopefully in July). Thanks to the folks over at Gadget University , we’ve got some hands-on time with the Droid Xtreme. So, what can you expect: The 4.3 inch capacitive touchscreen, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor under the hood, Android 2.1 goodness, an HDMI out port, and a new version of MOTOBLUR. The guys say it’s not as bad as we think, and hopefully that’s a good thing, because, well, we don’t think very highly of MOTOBLUR at all. There are hardware navigation keys for Home, Search, Back, and Menu, so no more capacitive buttons like on the original DROID. The model number said DROIDX, so that seems just about right. Now, we just need Verizon Wireless to tell us when it’s coming, so we can all stop salivating over what’s still unofficial. [ via Gadget University] ) View full post on Android Community
Motorola Droid for Verizon Wireless Gets a Price Drop
Considering everything we’ve been hearing about the upcoming devices from Motorola, from the Droid X to the Droid 2, it’s no surprise to us that we’re seeing Verizon Wireless take the next logical step: mark down prices. While the current iteration of the DROID is still doing ridiculously well for itself, when you’re about to make some room for what’s coming next, the only thing you really can do is drop the price of what’s already available. What you shouldn’t expect, though, is a huge price drop. After seven months of being available, the DROID has finally dropped $50. You heard that right, the flagship Android device from Motorola is now $149.99 on a new, two-year contract. If you order it from the wireless carrier’s website, you won’t have to worry about a mail-in rebate, and we’re curious as to what Verizon Corporate stores, as well as third-party retailers, are doing for that mail-in part. $50 now? That wouldn’t be too bad at all. Big question of the day, now though, is: when is Verizon going to officially announce what’s coming next? Anyone want to take a guess? Report: Saab talking to BMW about using Mini platform for new 9-2
Filed under: Europe, Crossover, Hatchback, BMW, Mini, Saab, Rumormill, Diesel

When Saab first showed the 9-X Biohybrid concept at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show, it was expected to evolve into a production model based on General Motors’ compact Delta architecture which forms the foundation of the Opel Astra and Chevrolet Cruze. Now that Saab is owned by Spyker Cars, CEO Victor Muller is reportedly looking for a new platform partner in Munich.
According to Swedish daily Dagens Industri, Saab is negotiating with BMW about getting access to the Mini architecture for a new 9-2 model to slot in underneath the 9-3. Before the teardrop-shaped runabout can become a reality, Saab needs to successfully launch both the 9-5 sedan and the 9-4x crossover.
There is no word yet on whether Muller is said to be in exclusive talks with BMW, or if Muller and Co. are in discussions with other automakers about supplying platforms and parts for the planned supermini. For its part, news agency Reuters quotes a unnamed BMW spokesman as saying “We are in talks with several interested parties who have interest in our technology… there are no contracts with Saab at the moment.”
The 9-4x, which shares its platform with the Cadillac SRX, is expected to finally launch early next year. But for the model to be successful in Europe, it will need to have a diesel engine option, and Dagens Industri is also reporting that BMW could also provide engines options, although that could be more problematic. The 9-4x has a transverse mounted powertrain, but all of BMW’s engines are longitudinally arrayed, which would require significant re-engineering. A tip of the hat to William!
