AT&T unlocks all but iPhone, Verizon customers want iPhone, no more iPhone 3G 8GB orders for AT&T
This is really a not surprising to me; Verizon customers want the iPhone according to an analyst. Research shows that 16.8% of all Verizon Wireless customers want the iPhone. That is a lot of people. AT&T has announced that it will allow customers to unlock any device that is offered on its network, except the iPhone. The announcement is the result of a class action lawsuit filed against the company. It appears that AT&T is getting set to remove the iPhone 3G in 8GB guise. Reports are coming in that there are no more orders for the 8GB iPhone 3G being placed. This could well be preparation for the new iPhone rumored for next month. View full post on iPhone Buzz

While we’re fans of things making our lives easier, we realize that sometimes you have to work hard for the things that are going to help you. In the long run, it’s always better to know that what you just put on your new gadget took almost just as much hard work as actually buying your new gadget. And, hopefully, the result is the same. As for the Wrapsol protective system, we have to say that we were pretty surprised at how well the thin film worked.

Anyone who follows the iPhone knows that the devices are unveiled at WWDC, set to kick off in only a few days. The launch of a new iPhone will mean the iPhone 3G will be killed off and the select button to buy the device has been removed from the Apple Store, is this a sign of things to come.

One of the things that has surfaced in the latest beta for the iPhone OS 4.0 was tethering support. CNET figures if you are thinking about an iPad 3G you should hold off since the iPhone just might allow tethering for the device at less cost.

iPhone revolver case is dangerous, Verizon iPhone in November, Skype 3G VoIP
A geek with a DIY passion and a 3D printer has created a iPhone case as dangerous as it is cool. The thing has the handle of a revolver sure to get you shot if you use it in front of a cop. An analyst claimed late last week that the iPhone would be landing at Verizon in November . We also heard last week that Sprint would be getting the device in September. I will believe it when I see it. A new version of Skype for the iPhone landed last week. The app is now at version 2.0.0 and gets 3G VoIP call capability. View full post on iPhone Buzz

AT&T promises tethering in OS 4, Jobs talks lost iPhone, Apple defends factory conditions
AT&T gave a bit of good news and bad news today. The carrier announced that it was ending unlimited data plans for the iPad and the good news was that the firm promised to support tethering in iPhone OS 4, the real question is how much it will cost.

Steve Jobs talked about many things at the D8 conference this week and one of them was the lost iPhone 4G prototype. Jobs said he was told to let it slide by a few people and then said, “When this whole thing with Gizmodo happened, I got a lot of advice from people that said you’ve got to just let it slide. You shouldn’t go after a journalist because they bought stolen property and tried to extort you. In addition, I thought about that and I decided that Apple can’t afford to change its core values and simply let it slide…I can’t do that. I’d rather quit.”
Jobs also stated at the D8 conference that Foxconn is not a sweatshop. Jobs still says that Apple reps are trying to figure out why 10 workers have killed themselves at a factory ran by Foxconn in China.

Fueled By the “iPad Effect”, iPhone OS Triples Android OS
Updated mobile market share numbers from research firm Nielsen were released last Friday, showing the Android OS market share losing ground against the iPhone OS. According to the report, iPhone OS powered devices are more than 3 times more popular than Android OS powered devices, with respectively 28% and 9% market shares of the smartphone market. Rim remains the leader of the segment, with a 35% market share, and Microsoft is still trailing Apple, with a 19% market share. Both Rim’s and Microsoft’s market share are declining (about 2% quarter over quarter), while Apple’s and Google’s market shares are steadily increasing (about 2% quarter over quarter as well) Note that these numbers do not take into account the iPad, since it is not considered a smartphone. However, it is clear that the “iPad effect” is helping Apple keep its top position on the consumer segment – Rim may be leader of the overall market, but the segment the firm targets is different than Apple’s. Interestingly enough, the report shows that Android and iPhone users are quite opinionated about their favorite OS, and are expected to remain loyal for the years to come. 80% of iPhone users plan to buy another iPhone OS device when it is time to upgrade, while 70% of Android users plan to purchase an Android OS powered device the next time they purchase a smartphone. These figures are at odds with RIM’s and Microsoft’s, with loyalty number as low as 47% and 34%, respectively. When Android OS tablets are launched, Google’s market share will likely see a boost as well, however, the gap between Apple and Google is not expected to shrink anytime soon.
