My iPad Goes to Court

I’m off today fulfilling my civic duty by appearing for jury duty. Usually jury duty involves a large group of people sitting in a room most of the morning waiting to see if they get called to potentially serve on a real jury. Then the fun really begins. In the past, I usually brought along a good book or magazine to keep me occupied while waiting to see if I would get called to serve on a jury. This time I was actually looking forward to the jury duty because I had my new 3G iPad to keep me entertained. I started off the day checking to see if there was any policy against bringing in a laptop or other electronics to the courthouse. I was in the clear, the only thing I had to worry about was putting my electronics in silent mode to make sure an errant phone call didn’t disturb the jury selection room. Next thing before heading off was to pull out my iPad and get directions to the courthouse. They recently moved to a new building since I last served and I figured being late for court was not a good idea. I put the address into Google Maps and quickly got the route that I needed. I’m looking forward to a true navigation app on the iPad that will rival my Garmin. There are several companies busy working on iPad versions of their iPhone navigation apps and I think we’ll start to see them hit the app store starting this summer. So how did I spend my time at the courthouse? Well I spent it on a mix of productive stuff and of course some fun stuff. Once I was in the courthouse I pulled up The Wall Street Journal and USA Today apps to get caught up on the news and see what’s going on in the world. These are two of my favorite news apps but I also use the AP , Reuters and New York Times apps on a regular basis. I really like USA Today and WSJ because of their well executed interfaces and the fact that they take advantage of the iPad’s bigger screen. Once I was caught up on the news, I went to check how the PadGadget website was doing and our traffic numbers for the weekend. I use Ego for iPad by Garrett Murray to quickly see important stats from Google Analytics, Feedburner and Twitter. Ego is great for getting quick access to stats but I wish they would add more service widgets so I could pull in data from Google AdSense and AdWords, Commission Junction, LinkShare and Amazon. These are sites I check on a daily basis to get a read on how our business is doing. If you run a website or do a lot of social networking you should give Ego for iPad a look. With business out of the way, I moved on to the fun stuff. The iPad makes a great portable gaming platform and two of my favorite games right now are Touchgrind HD from Illusion Labs and Hotel Mogul HD from Alawar Entertainment. They’re both fun and addictive games that you can easily pickup and play for a minute or for hours. This makes them perfect for when you have a few minutes to kill while at the airport, lunch or in my case a jury room. I thought it was only appropriate I watch a cop show to get me in the courtroom mindset. I tried out the updated ABC Player which now has improved 3G video streaming support. I started watching ABC’s hit drama Castle and was impressed with the quality of the video. ABC has done a great job with this app and the improved 3G streaming was very nice. I didn’t get too far into the show as the court only needed two jury panels today and I was informed my service to the county was completed. In another 36 months I’ll get to start the fun all over again and I’ll be sure to have the latest and greatest iPad by my side. Lost Series Finale Already Available On The iPad

If for some reason you missed the series finale of Lost yesterday (“The End”), or if you want to watch it again, the show is already available on the ABC Player . The finale delivered, as most reviews this morning are very positive – some critics even dubbed the finale as “a masterpiece”. The episode answers many questions, and you will finally understand why the last season proposed two alternate realities, one on the Island in 2007, and one back to 2004, in LA. You will have the chance to see all major characters – even the ones who are dead – and say goodbye to your favorite series once and for all, via this 2+ hour long episode. One word of advice, keep a tissue box next to you, as the finale is particularly moving, especially if you have followed the show since day one. This list is a mix of games that will bring some good action while you enjoy the comfort of your house, and we have included some mind puzzle games as well. The bottom line is this list allows you to have fun with your family and friends. Without further ado, let’s kick it off! TowerMadness HD Developer: Limbic Software Version used for this review: 1.4 Price when reviewed: $7.99 The highly anticipated, award-winning 3D tower defense strategy game has been redesigned for the iPad and now includes split-screen multi-player. Limbic Software’s TowerMadness HD has just been released on the App Store including multiple maps, new single player campaign mode system, and a unique multi-player system. TowerMadness HD is an open-field or fixed-path tower defense game where you can create your own path to defend off the enemies (Aliens) from reaching your base (herd of sheep). The game has full 3D graphics with pinch-to-zoom capabilities to view the game from any angle, all the way down to first-person viewing of the action. We liked the split-screen multiplayer mode. The way it works is that each player is controlling different games, but they are fighting the same set of aliens, allowing each player to have their own strategy. Great graphics on this game and it flows smoothly. I would like to see more extra weapons in upcoming releases. I have to assume the developer will do so. Folks, evil aliens are coming to turn your beloved sheep into intergalactic scarves! Protect the flock using only quick thinking and the weaponry at your disposal. This game is a lot of fun. A great iPad download if you like strategy games. Keep reading the 10 iPad Fun Games . Get Your iPad Gear

If you plan to travel this summer, want to take your iPad with you and still need accessories from the Apple Store, you better get moving!  I’ve been looking for the iPad Camera Connection Kit since the iPad arrived the beginning of April and still can’t find it.  I didn’t pick it up fast enough that day and haven’t been lucky enough to find it in stock since then. I’ve been looking back and forth between our local Apple retail store and the online store for a while now.  Shipping times online continue to increase and I simply can’t find it locally so, with summer vacation around the corner, I finally decided to just order the camera connection kit online.  I went to Apple’s online store yesterday morning, found the camera connection kit and placed my order.  At that time, my order showed a delivery time of 3-4 weeks. I received an Order Acknowledgement email yesterday evening saying my item would ship on June 22nd and arrive on June 25th.  If my delivery date stays true, my camera connection kit will arrive one day shy of five weeks from the day I ordered. Being curious, I checked out shipping times for a few more iPad products.  The Apple iPad Case also ships in 3-4 weeks, but the Apple iPad Keyboard Dock ships within 24 hours. So the bottom line is, if you need gadgets for your summer trip, don’t delay and order now! The Stretching Clock

stretching clock The Stretching Clock

Somehow I doubt there are a whole lot of people that don’t do that morning stretch.  It loosens up all of those muscles after a full night of a very small amount of movement.  Well this clock actually uses your morning stretch to shut off the alarm.  Which is a whole lot better than stretching while you have to listen to beeping or slamming on the clock and then stretching afterward.

There are arms inside of the pillow, in order to make the alarm stop you have to pull on those arms in the same way you’d usually stretch yourself out.  There is both a child and an adult version of this.  Concealed just inside the edge of the pillow is a small clock to show you the time.  That means you don’t need a nightstand with a way too bright clock and you can sleep in peace.  Unfortunately this is just a design so far, but perhaps Seung-hee Ryu’s design will get picked up by one of the many alarm clock obsessed manufacturers.
