Compression HD for iPad – Quick App Review

comp1 Compression HD for iPad – Quick App ReviewTired of the typical “match-three” games? Want something with a little more attitude? Well, Compression HD is available now on the App Store. The game is expected to bring your game experience to the next level, with danger coming at you from all directions!

If you are not familiar with “match-three” games, these all revolve around the mechanic of creating a three-in-a-row line of identical pieces. In Compression HD the goal is simple. Remove all the hollow pieces from the game board before you run out of space.

But, can you do it before the walls close in on you? After every third dropped piece, a wall will move inward, compressing your game board, and causing pieces to shift.

The game requires you to rotate, slide, and drop colored blocks via touch controls in order to match three or more like-colored blocks in a vertical or horizontal row. The controls are very easy to use, and you will quickly understand how to control the pieces once you start playing.

Make sure you complete each level before the board is too small and there is no room left for any new pieces. As you complete levels, the game gets faster and faster. The game offers achievements and multiple global scoreboards (OpenFeint enabled). You can also import friends from Twitter and Facebook to compare scores and compete.

Sort Shots for iPad – Quick App Review

Looking for ways to sort through hundreds of pictures on your iPad? Sort Shots helps you find photographs and videos on your iPad. Tap on a tag (keyword), a rating, a category or favorites to quickly locate your photographs. Your “Sorts” can be saved for easy retrieval. Select one or more photographs and share them on Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and Picasa. Feel free to create an impromptu slide-show by simply tapping the “Play” button and the images begin to play along with music from your library. What I find useful about this app, is that it eliminates the need to scroll through all of your photos when looking for a photo of a friend. Simply, do a sort based on their name. If you want to reduce the results further, add additional criteria such as a place or event. Tap on a thumbnail to view the image full screen. If you want to see the results based on your ratings, simply tap on the Low-to-High or High-to-Low button. The app allows you to select multiple photographs to categorize, making it more efficient to assign terms. Tap once to select multiple photographs, tap on the term to associate it with the photograph, tap again to deselect and assign keywords to the remaining selected photos. A few features seem to be missing. For example, would like to see photos be sorted by date. In addition, would like to see the capability of importing tags into the app to avoid re-tagging hundreds of pictures manually. Features Summary Fast image retrieval through unique photo and video tagging. Tagging options include personalized keywords, ratings, favorites, places, or type of media (photo or video). Panels for editing, managing, assigning and sorting tags. Latest version (v1.1) provides you improved tagging functionality allowing you to choose various levels of keywords. Add sort terms to photos individually or in groups. For example, add the tag “Europe” to a number of photos or categorize each photo one at a time. Add your own custom categories. Image sharing with popular web services such as Flickr, Picasa, Facebook, and Twitter. Create an impromptu slide-show with music from your library. Sort Shots , at $4.99 is a bit pricey, but a good way to quickly retrieve your photographs for easy viewing and sharing. The University will also use the iPad to enhance student safety by pushing emergency alerts directly to iPhone & iPad devices in the case of a campus emergency. Safety is a hot topic for parents and students who want to know how universities will alert students and faculty to campus emergencies and violent crimes. Speck Fitted Case for the iPad

Our PadGadget team has used Speck iPhone and MacBook cases for years and we’ve always been happy with them.  After spending a chunk of money on new iPads, we definitely need good reliable cases to protect them.  A recent review discussed the pros and cons of three Speck products, PixelShield, ShieldView and CandyShell , all of which were PadGadget Recommended.  Now it’s time to take a look at the Speck Fitted Case . My first impression of this case is good, so let’s see what it really has to offer.  The Fitted case is a two piece hard shell with the back part of it covered in fabric.  There are 5 fabric choices to choose from (see pictures below), all of which provide a polished, tailored look.  The edges have a soft matte coating and include cutouts for the speaker, sync port, headphone jack and all the control buttons. Installation was a snap, literally!  I inserted my iPad into the back of the case and made sure all the iPad ports and buttons were lined up with the appropriate cutouts.  Not a problem.  Then I sat the front of the case on top of my iPad (once again matching the cutouts) and gently snapped it into place starting at one corner and working my way around until firmly in place. Now that I’ve successfully installed my Fitted case, I want to check it out and determine whether or not I actually like it.  We currently have 2 stands and the iPad dock here at PadGadget.  I know my iPad won’t sit in the dock with the case on, but to be perfectly honest, that’s no big deal to me.  My iPad usually lays on my desk while I work and I connect it to my iMac with the sync cable when I need to charge it.  I tried both positions on the Twelve South BookArc for iPad stand and found the case was too thick to allow the iPad to stand upright.  The stand from Scott A. Snyder Furniture did work with the case, albeit a bit snug.  Also, my iPad would not slide all the way to the bottom of the grove like it does without the case. What I liked: I really liked this case.  It’s easy to get on and off your iPad, plus it’s light weight.  The fabric choices look sharp and stylish.  You can easily go from work to play using this case. What I disliked: I like to carry my iPad in my handbag and this case provides no protection for the screen when I carry it that way.  In order to combat that problem, you could always use the Speck ShieldView screen protection.  Also, a price tag of $49.95 might be a bit high for some, but after paying $629 plus tax for my iPad, I’m willing to fork over the extra fifty bucks for a good quality case to protect it. To buy or not to buy: Yes!  If you like this type of case, you can’t go wrong with this purchase. iPad Case Name: Fitted Company: Speck Color/Fabric Choices: Houndstooth Gray, Fadeaway Gray/Black/Green, Fadeaway Gray/Black/Pink, ClassicPlaid Pink & Gray, Black & White Plaid Price: $49.95 Score: I truly believe there is a case out there for everyone.  There are so many choices on the market and more arriving every day, you just need to find the one with the features you need to fit your lifestyle. Check back tomorrow for a comparison of the two stands mentioned in this review.
