PaperDesk – iPad App Review

pd1 PaperDesk – iPad App ReviewLooking for a way to take notes for your next class lecture or meeting? You will find several options for taking notes in the App Store. You will find different apps such as PaperDesk, Pages, Penultimate and Sundry Notes. In this article we will focus on the PaperDesk app. We will provide reviews of other apps in the near future.

PaperDesk is an app that allows you to create digital notebooks from scratch on your iPad. The app allows you to take notes by writing directly on the screen. In addition to writing, you can also add typed notes and voice notes.

PaperDesk Overview

When you run the PaperDesk app for the first time, you may be a bit confused. Instead of seeing a notebook or a sheet of paper, you will be greeted by a blank wooden desk. However, there is a “new document” icon (a plus sign icon) in the upper right corner of your desk. All you need to do is tap the “plus” sign and it will bring up a dialog that allows you to create a new notebook. You have the ability to create each notebook with a unique title, and you can also use up to five different colors to identify each notebook.

Comcast Demos iPad App!

Indie developers are not the only ones that get a chance to use the iPad as a playground. Service providers have already started to focus on the revolutionary device. One of the early ones is Comcast. Comcast showed off this week a new application at The Cable Show 2010 . This is a large trade show hosted by the National Cable and Telecommunications Association in the U.S. The new app turns your iPad into a web-based TV remote. The Xfinity Remote, which is how Comcast calls it, allows you to search for television shows, movies and video on demand, change channels on a cable box and program DVR recordings remotely. But, how does it work? The app works by pairing the iPad to set-top boxes, enabling two-way communication between the devices. Comcast’s demo app can be used to control the TV and DVR. This could really tempt all of you to replace your remote controls eventually. You would be able to scroll through the program guide and choose to either watch shows or record them for later viewing. All of this is very consistent with Comcast’s plans to add more than 11,000 movies to its video on demand library, in addition to the 20,000 TV shows and movies it has online. There are plans already to add social features to this app, which will allow you to chat with other users, launch Facebook and share recommendations with your friends. The following video shows you a brief app demo. Comcast’s CEO, Brian Roberts, explains how the iPad is paired to a cable box similar to how smart-phone owners might connect a Bluetooth device. Enjoy! iPad Coming to Walmart!

Walmart Stores Inc. may start selling the iPad by end of 2010 in some U.S. stores, as it competes with electronics chains for savvy consumers. Apple has sold more than 1 million iPads since they went on sale in the U.S. last month, making the debut more successful than the introduction of the iPhone in 2007. The only distribution channels up to this point have been Apple stores (including online) and Best Buy, who was the first electronics chain to sell it. Apple hasn’t made any announcements regarding retail partners since the iPad was introduced. But, that can change very soon as the demand for the device continues to be very strong . Walmart is expected to announce today their plans to add more Internet-connected flat-panel televisions, Blu-ray disc players, mobile phones and routers to their shelves. This is “in-line” with what Best Buy and RadioShack have done recently. Think about this for a minute. The consumer market has become more educated about electronics. Today, Walmart shoppers come to the stores looking for flat-panel TVs, Blu-ray players, routers, computers and gaming platforms. The trend shows the consumers are looking for new ways to consume content (video, images, games). Consumers want to be able to download movies from services such as Netflix or Vudu (acquired by Walmart in March). All of this fits in very well with the iPad’s value proposition. Of course, establishing new distribution channels for the iPad will depend on Apple’s ability to sustain the supply and demand scenario. Apple needs to stay on top of the production yields of their manufacturers. Considering there are several rivals promising to release iPad killers in 2010, getting the iPad into Walmart will be a good move by Apple. As we all know, Walmart is the biggest retail operation in the world! Tags : iPad at Walmart , Walmart Category : iPad News Powered by WizardRSS | Full Text RSS Feeds

“Green” iPad Sleeve

Always on the lookout for interesting gear for the iPad, I happened upon the Plaid Doctrine website today.  The bags and sleeves on this site are not only stylish and fun, but also environmentally friendly. Founded by Suzanne Park, a former Global Advertising Manager at Microsoft, “Plaid Doctrine thinks it’s high time we all expect more from our work bags and accessories.”  With 300,000+ traveling miles for work, Suzanne knows what she wants and needs in a great bag. The Plaid Doctrine products are created from fabrics made of recycled bottles and prime vegetable-tanned leather.  Don’t worry, they still look great!  Despite the recycled materials, these bags and cases have classic designs and they’re built to last.  Most of the materials come from domestic sources and all the bags are made right here in the USA. Plaid Doctrine currently has four products available on its website with more in the works.  Whether your environmentally conscious or fashion conscious, it doesn’t look like you can go wrong with a Plaid Doctrine bag! HTC Sues to Halt iPad Importation

htc logo HTC Sues to Halt iPad ImportationLooks like HTC doesn’t want you to have an iPad any time in the near future.  The folks at HTC just counter sued Apple for patent infringement on five HTC patents dealing with such high-tech wonders as power control and telephone dialing.  This comes in reaction to Apple’s earlier suit against HTC for infringement on several of Apple’s multitouch patents.

If HTC has their way, it might become even harder for you to find an iPad in an Apple store.  HTC has asked the United States International Trade Commission to halt the importation and sale of the iPhone, iPad and iPod in the United States. Only two of the patents might possibly apply to the iPad as they deal with power control and power management.

Apple has been getting a lot of legal attention lately with lawsuits from Nokia, Intellect Wireless, and now HTC.  Seems everybody wants a piece of Apple’s high-margin iPhone and iPod business.

Chase Mobile iPad App

Chase is the first in the US banking industry to release a mobile banking app specifically for the iPad.  I have the iPhone app but don’t use it often because I find it a little too small for my liking on the phone.  I decided to check out the new iPad app today so I downloaded it and played around a bit.  I found the iPad app to be almost exactly like the one for the iPhone but easier to navigate because of the larger iPad screen.  I did have to go through some security procedures the first time I logged in, because Chase did not recognize my new mobile device.  After that, I was able to log on and take care of business. Users are able to manage their accounts, pay bills, send wire transfers and more.  I actually like the bill pay option in this app better than the online option I currently use from my desktop.  A great feature on the Chase Mobile app is the “Find ATM/Branch” option which uses your current location to provide a long list of Chase branches in the area.  I find this function to be extremely helpful when traveling. Whether you’re at your desktop or on a mobile device, Chase has got you covered with some of the best banking software out there.
