Amazon Releases New iPad Mobile App

Amazon has just released their new Amazon Mobile shopping app for the iPad in the App Store.  The app is similar to the version they released for the iPhone shortly after its launch but has been updated and optimized for the iPad’s larger screen size and multimedia capabilities.  Users can browse Amazon’s extensive product offering, make 1-Click purchases, get personalized recommendations, watch movie trailers and listen to song clips before making a purchase. “Following the launch of the Amazon App for iPhone and iPod touch, we’ve used our customers’ feedback to help us build a fun and intuitive shopping destination on the iPad,” said Sam Hall, director of Amazon Mobile. “This application offers customers a unique, interactive experience that takes full advantage of the visual and tactile nature of the iPad.” Amazon has been on a tear lately, this is the third iPad specific app Amazon has released in a little more than 30 days.  Amazon’s first iPad app was a Kindle e-reader app to allow iPad users to purchase and read e-books purchased from Amazon’s Kindle e-bookstore.  Amazon quickly followed up with their very popular IMDb iPad app , which allows users to browse the IMDb database of movies, TV shows and celebrity information. Update: New International Pre-Orders Ship by June 7

Just a few days ago, Apple announced the iPad international launch for May 28 . The pre-ordering process went live on May 9. Now, Apple has updated its online stores across the globe to reflect a new estimated shipping date of June 7 for those who did not initially pre-order an iPad overseas. The update seems to confirm the strong demand overseas . It seems that Apple has completely sold out of its initial batch of iPads (Wi-Fi and 3G models). For everyone that secured pre-orders early enough for the May 28 launch, you should see your new toy by the scheduled launch date. Apple only began accepting pre-orders from the nine international launch countries this week. Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom will be the first countries to get the iPad outside the United States. As of now, updates to Apple’s online stores have been reflected in many of the local Apple store websites. A new ship date of June 7 shows for new pre-orders (see Canada’s website picture above). This is not the first delay we have seen. The international launch of the iPad was originally scheduled for late April, but Apple delayed it by a month due to strong demand in the U.S. I know many are desperate to get their hands on their new toy. Be patient, soon you will get a chance to explore the new device. If you have not pre-ordered yours, do it quickly! Maya Pouch Case From Proporta – iPad Gear Review

The Maya Case is a high quality slim sleeve designed to carry and protect your iPad. It features a soft, scratch-free lining and comes in a variety of color options to suit you and your iPad. The Maya Case is not meant to replace a backpack or a bag, its primary use is to shield your iPad from foreign objects like keys while on the go, and it does the job very well. It also does a good job at shielding your iPad during x-ray screenings at the airport security checkpoints, since once in a while TSA employees ask passengers to take their devices out of their bags before running them through the x-ray machine. The Maya Case is made from synthetic leather, and comes in five flavors: Black Black w/ a white stripe Pink Pink w/ white/black stripes White w/ red/black stripes The retail price is set at $29.95, not the cheapest iPad sleeve on the market, but the sleeve offers nice features, such as a snug fit, and a better than average lining. Most of all, the use of leather-like material gives it an upscale look. What we liked: Perfect fit, looks. Large choice of colors. What we didn’t like: A bit pricey. To buy or not to buy: iPad leather cases usually cost twice as much as the Maya Case, so if you want a leather-like sleeve without having to pay the premium for leather, this is the one you need! iWork iPad Apps To Generate Millions?

The iPad story continues to grow at a fast pace. First, over 1 million iPads sold within 28 days since the device launched. Second, over 12 million apps downloaded in just a few weeks (in the U.S.). Third, more than 6,000 iPad-native apps have appeared in the App Store since the device was announced. Finally, the iWork apps suite seems to be on track to potentially generate millions in annual sales. The consumer market and the development community are driving staggering numbers. The key to success has been the creation of a device that serves as a playground for many. Think carefully. Developers have lots of fun by letting their imagination roam freely, while consumers simply become addicted to the endless possibilities of application concepts. It should be to no one’s surprise, when we see apps such as the iWork suite already generating large revenue numbers. Apple’s iWork apps — Pages , Keynote , and Numbers — have consistently been among the most popular iPad apps since the device launched last month. According to a report published by Business Insider , Apple has generated somewhere around $3 million in revenue from their iWork suite. The report goes on to estimate the iWork suite could generate over $40 million a year for Apple. These figures are based on Business Insider talks with several top 10 iPad developers. The numbers were calculated based on estimates that top paid apps sell about 2,500 copies per weekday, and another 7,500 per Saturday or Sunday. If you do the math, this equals to 27,500 downloads per app each week. The report also assumes a cost per app of $10, which translates to $825,000 in weekly revenue. If you calculate a yearly revenue, that’s about $43 million. Of course, these are all estimates. However, the trends we have seen show there is a real appetite for iPad apps. Perhaps, the iPad is already proving its value beyond a simple media consumption device. What kind of apps are you downloading? Are you using any productivity apps? We would like to hear your opinion. Tags : iWork Apps , iWork revenue , keynote , numbers , pages Category : News , iPad for Work Powered by WizardRSS | Full Text RSS Feeds

Google And Verizon Working On An “iPad Killer”

About a month ago, we mentioned that Google was ramping up its troops in order to finalize its very own “gPad”, however at the time it was not clear who was the wireless service provider Google was working with. The suspense is now over, as earlier today, Verizon announced that it was working with Google as part of its initiative to build a serious contender to the iPad. The announcement was made by Verizon Wireless’ CEO, Lowell McAdam, in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. McAdam praised tablets, that he considered part of the “next big wave of opportunity”, and mentioned the fact that the future device is an evolutionary step in the carrier’s relationship with Google. McAdam did not give any details about the targeted launch date for the device, expected to be available sometime during late summer. The manufacturer of the device was not mentioned either, but given Google’s track record, HTC will likely be involved. On a side note, quite a few folks consider this interview as another trick from Verizon “to get more leverage in [its] negotiations with Apple.”, as Verizon has also been trying to convince Apple to build devices ready for its network. Trish McEvoy and Her iPad

You never know where an iPad might pop up or who you will see using one!  I was at Nordstrom in the Dallas Galleria this morning for an exclusive make-up event with Trish McEvoy (pictured on the left).  It was an intimate event with about 40 women, several make-up artists and Trish.  She featured her current summer line, demonstrated different make-up techniques and discussed a variety of products.  After the presentation, I saw her relaxing in one of the Nordstrom sitting areas and had the opportunity to talk with her for a few minutes.  I walked into the room and to my surprise, she had an iPad sitting on her lap and was busy working away. Trish lives in New York but travels all over the country and around the world.  With this type of lifestyle, you need an easy way to stay connected and apparently the iPad is her gadget of choice.  According to Trish, she uses her iPad for “Everything!”  A device that allows users to surf the net, send and receive emails, read books and more is perfect for even the most elegant fashion icon! vaio p Sony ready to roll out new VAIO P Series

Folks who are looking for a cute little portable computing device without cost being a factor might want to look at the new and improved Sony VAIO P Series. The original which was unveiled to the masses at CES a year ago comes across as a wondrous portable computing device, where it packs enough power to get basic work done on the go while maintaining a form factor that allows you to stash it in your back jeans pocket without missing a beat. Well, the VAIO P is now new and improved, and you will also be able to enjoy an array of built-in one-touch buttons which allows you to instantly access the web, adjust screen resolution and even tune-up your PC from the get go. A trackpad has been built directly into the LCD bezel for a novel way of interaction, while a mobile nav grip have also been added to make life easier than ever, letting you access content on-the-go. Sony also knows that you want to look good while using gizmos, which is why they introduced it in five vibrant new colors – electric orange, neon green, hot pink, icy white and classic black. Let’s check out its specifications and features further after the jump.

Measuring roughly the size of a business envelope and somewhat as thin as a cellphone, the VAIO P Series tips the scales at a mere 1.4 pounds, where despite its diminutive size, it will integrate full PC features and capabilities, letting you edit documents, watch online videos, and organize photos all with an ultraportable design. Of course, battery life in such a small device will not be conducive for you to work for long hours on end without a power plug nearby. Still, let it not discourage you from picking one up since you get interesting features such as these :-

  • The new PC features one-touch buttons providing convenient shortcuts with just a click.
  • Press the WEB button, and this Instant mode option launches directly into your browser. You can even press it when the PC is turned off and it will launch you into your web browser without a full boot through the Windows® operating system.
  • The ASSIST button launches Sony’s own VAIO Care software, an easy-to-use program that lets you tune-up, maintain, update and troubleshoot the PC.
  • A resolution button lets you increase or decrease screen resolution for optimal viewing.
  • The P Series also boasts a unique mobile nav grip to surf the web without a mouse or keyboard. A trackpad and left- and right-click buttons are built right into the LCD bezel, providing a creative solution to navigate the web and a new way to interact with a PC.
  • It features a high-resolution, 1600 x 768, LED backlit 8-inch ultra-wide display (diagonal), making it easy to view everything from entire spreadsheets to full web pages. Plus, for a more convenient way to read long web pages without all the scrolling, turn the P Series on its side to change the viewing orientation from landscape mode to portrait mode. A new array of stylish carrying cases and wireless mice are now available.
  • GPS and Digital Compass
  • Accelerometer sensor
  • Built-in Everywair 3G
  • Clear, bright, widescreen VAIO Display Plus
